I KUDOS INSIDE MOREHOUSE, FEBRUARY 2015 Julius Coles was a panelist for the discussion “In the Nation’s Service” at Princeton University on Oct. 18. Coles also was a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow at Stonehill College for one week in November. Mitch Moffett, a senior music major, appeared on CNN’s “The Brooke Baldwin Show" to talk about leading AUC student protestors in song during their Nov. 25 march to CNN to protest the Michael Brown/Darren Wilson grand jury finding. Vickie Cox Edmondson, professor of management, and Melvinia King, director of the Leadership Studies Program, wrote an article, "Accountability and Voice: Addressing Pledging and Disengagement in Black Greek-Letter Organizations,” that appeared in the December 2014 edition of the International Journal of Ethnic College Health, Vol. 1, No. 2. HtjZ Michael Gatewood, Morehouse shooting in Ferguson, Mo. Marc Lamont Hill, distinguished professor of African American Studies, hosted “After Words: Jeff Chang, ’Who We Be: The Colorization of America’” on C-SPAN2’s “Book TV” on Nov. 8. Mill and President John Silvanus Wilson Jr. 79 were named to the Ebony Power 100 list, which celebrates African Americans who lead, inspire and demonstrate through their individual talents the very best in black America. Darryl Isom, director of Admissions and Recruitment, was mentioned in a Nov. 19 The New York Times article on college admissions officials looking at potential students’ social media spaces. Kenneth Newby ’05, professor and director of the Morehouse Forensics Program, gave election night political analysis for CBS 46 Atlanta/WGCL-TV on Nov. 5. Ruihua Shen, director of the Chinese Studies Program, was featured in a Diverse: Issues in Higher Education story about the rising interest in Chinese studies at historically black colleges and universities. Keisha Tassie, associate professor of communication, and Sonja Brown Givens, associate vice president at Medaille College, have published their co-edited book, Underserved Women of Color, Voice, and Resistance: Claiming a Seat at the Table Their book examines the ways in which women of color voice resistance within the restrictive, intersecting contexts of race, gender, class and sexuality. Daniel Hummer, associate professor of psychology, and his research lab assistants James Brown, junior psychology major, Emmanuel Russom, a junior biology major, Philip Walker, senior biology major, and Aparecio Peggins ’14, presented a poster on the long-term non contiguous blockade of GABAA receptors in the SCN on light- induced phase shifts during the Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in Washington, D.C. Mark Levine, instructor of Chinese Studies, presented a paper “Lu Xun as Rememberer: Childhood Memory and Identity in ‘My Old Homes’" at the Rocky Mountain Language Association Convention, Oct. 9-14 in Boise, Idaho. Bryant Marks ’94, director of the Morehouse Research Institute, was interviewed by CNN on Dec. 4 about the Eric Garner decision and Charles Barkley’s comments. Gary Wright, director of the Morehouse College Counseling Resource Center, wrote the op-ed piece, “Counseling Black Men: The Thousand-Piece Puzzle," that appeared in The Chronicle of Higher Education's special supplement issue “Black Men on Campus," on Oct. 27. Lena Osula Retires After 13 Years at Morehouse LENA OSULA, admissions data specialist, retired Jan. 30 after working for the College for 13 years. The Office of Admissions presented her with several gifts, including a money tree, during a retirement reception for her in the African American Hall of Fame on Jan. 28.
