CARDINAL RECEIVES HIGH CHINESE HONOR - Stopping off in Formosa during his
annual Christmas visit to the U. S. armed forces, Francis Cardinal Spellman, Arch
bishop of New York was decorated with the Order of Brilliant Star With Grand Cordon
by President Chiang Kai-shek. Madame Chiang (left) watches as a Chinese Nationalist
general makes the necessary adjustments. Cardinal Spellman later flew to Saigon, South,
Vietnam, where he offered Christmas Midnight Mass for U. S. troops stationed there.
