Register were held at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, December 24. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Reese Register; two daughters, Miss Lyn Register, Savannah; Mrs. C. D. Hutch inson, Winter Park, Fla.; a brother, Sidney W. Register of Savannah Beach; four sisters, Mrs. Claude A. Lyons and Mrs. A. Van Allen Bealer, both of Savannah, Mrs. Herbert B. Kraft, Stuart, Fla., and Mrs. William H. Miller, Miami, Fla. Miss Mary Catherine Byers SAVANNAH - Funeral serv ices for Miss Mary Catherine Byers, were held at the Cathe dral of St. John the Baptist, December 31st. She is survived by three bro thers, James A. Byers of Fort Screvens, William J. Byers, Savannah; and Joseph J. Byers, Charleston, S. C.; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret B. Burke, Sav annah; and Mrs. Ann B. McKay of Tampa, Fla.; an uncle and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Elizabeth D. Monahan SAVANNAH - Funeral serv ices for Mrs. Elizabeth Daly Monahan, were held December 31st at the Blessed Sacrament Church. Surviving are her husband, Jeremiah J. Monahan; daughter, Miss Diana Elizabeth Monahan; a sister, Johanna Daly; a bro ther, James A. Daly; several nieces and nephews; a grand niece and a grand-nephew. William F. Ryan SAVANNAH - Funeral serv ices for William Francis Ryan were held at the Blessed Sacra ment Church, December 23rd. Surviving are his wife, Lila Heidt Ryan; two sisters, Mrs. J. J. Womble, Savannah; and Mrs. Mamie McCreary, Tampa, Fla.; two brothers, Lawrence Ryan, Toledo, Ohio, and JohnJ. Ryan of Savannah; and several nieces and nephews. CARDINAL RECEIVES HIGH CHINESE HONOR - Stopping off in Formosa during his annual Christmas visit to the U. S. armed forces, Francis Cardinal Spellman, Arch bishop of New York was decorated with the Order of Brilliant Star With Grand Cordon by President Chiang Kai-shek. Madame Chiang (left) watches as a Chinese Nationalist general makes the necessary adjustments. Cardinal Spellman later flew to Saigon, South, Vietnam, where he offered Christmas Midnight Mass for U. Surviving are a son, James M. Collins, Jr., three sisters, Miss Cecile M. McGuire and Miss Mabel McGuire, both of Savannah; Mrs. Kathlee Kamer- on, Savannah Beach; two grand children. Elbert B. Clark SAVANNAH - Funeral serv ices for Elbert Bailey Clark were held in the Chapel of the Little Sisters of the Poor, De cember 30th, Father Felix Don nelly, pastor of the Church of the Nativity officiated. Surviving are three daugh ters, Mrs. W. E. Dampier, Savannah; Mrs. J. J. Gundlach, Orlando, Fla.; Sister Irine of the Little Sisters of the Poor, New Haven, Conn.; and son, Nicho las Clark of Marietta, Ga.; seven grandchildren.
