The Glenmary Fathers, who
have staffed this sprawling

feel is no longer ‘Mission
Territory.’
But, while St. Matthew’s
reverts to administration by
Diocesan clergy, with the Rev.
George James as newly ap
pointed pastor, the Glenmary
Fathers are preparing to open
three new parishes in coun
ties formerly served by St.
Matthew’s; St. Christopher’s
Claxton and Assumption, Syl-
vania.
Sacred Heart Parish at Ly-
ons-Vidalia will serve
Toombs and Mongomery
counties. Jefferson and Burke
counties will be served bySa-
cred Heart Parish, Waynes
boro. Holy Trinity parish,
Swainsboro will comprise
Candler and Emanuel Coun
ties.
Parish lines have also been
re-drawn so that Effingham
County, formerly served by
Our Lady of the Assumption,
Sylvania, is now a part of
Our Lady of Lourdes parish,
Port Wentworth.
