Macon Board Meeting Aug. 2nd
The summer board meeting of the Macon Deanery Council of Catholic Women will
be held Wed., August 2nd, at St. Joseph’s Center in Macon at 10:30 a.m. The
Macon Deanery includes St. Joseph, St. Peter Claver and Holy Spirit in Macon; Sacred
Heart in Warner Robins; St. Patrick in Perry; and Immaculate Conception in Dublin.
In mid June CCD students completed
two weeks of Summer School entitled
“Vacation Joy School.” Joy was the
keynote of the lessons, songs and
activities which climaxed at the Penance,
final Mass and closing service. The
Penance on the eve of closing day was
one of great simplicity and tremendous
appeal. It was conducted by Rev. John
O’Brien, of Holy Family, who was
assisted by Rev. Michael O’Keeffe, St.
Ann’s.
School were carried at the Offertory
Procession, while the students placed
around the altar the many giftwrapped
toys which were token of their self-giving.
These toys were later given to Sister
Joseph, social worker, for her July School
for children who were not accepted in the
city Summer programs. On the Altar fall
appeared in striking colors the names of
all the students, written by themselves, as
a further external sign of self-giving.
6 stories were told and songs too were
used. Grade 4 in which there were special
activities in preparation for Confession,
students made an album of all the Bible
stories dealing with God’s loving mercy,
and one student, Ken Shaw, won much
applause for his very own version of the
Prodigal Son. Grades 7 and 8 conducted a
prayer service entitled “Follow Me”.
for their dedicated teachers.
The Vacation Joy School, 1972 ended
with a full-throated rendering of “I’ve got
that Joy, joy, joy, joy down in my
heart”.
Plans and ideas for the Fall will be discussed and duties of the new commission
chairmen are to be outlined.
Officers for the coming year, 1972-1973, are Mrs. Robert M. Young, President; Mrs.
Robert Slocum, Vice President; Mrs. Glenn Duckworth, Recording Secretary; Mrs.
Robert W. Hurley, Corresponding Secretary; and Mrs. Patricia Starks, Treasurer. Rev.
John Hurley of Holy Spirit Parish is the Moderator.
At Mass each day grades rotated in
leading the celebration, and at the final
Mass all grades had representatives read
special petitions. Boys from the upper
grades served in the Sanctuary, the first
reading was beautifully rendered by
Connie Yuna and excellent song leaders
were Sharon Runion, Nancy Smith,
Stefan vonBokern and Randy Ziegler.
Parents were invited to the closing
program during which each grade went on
stage and told, or demonstrated to, the
audience what they had learned. In grades
1 through 3 this was done by drawings,
songs, and activities. In grades 4 through
At this time toys in abundance were
presented to Sister Joseph and prizes
were given for perfect attendance at
Vacation School and also at Sunday
School, September 1971 through June
1972. The students applauded each other
with much enthusiasm which was
excelled only by their exuberent applause

these children and guarantee him (or her) three
meals a day, a warm bed, love and companion
ship and preparation to earn his own living. An
orphan’s support costs only $14 a month , . .
$168 a year. Send us the first month's support
and we will send your 'adopted' child's photo.
You can write to him or her. The Sister who-
