Bazaar - Sept. 14
A Parish Bazaar is being organized by Most Pure Heart
of Mary, Savannah, on Saturday, September 14, from 10:00
AM to 5:00 PM. Activities include games and dancing. Addi
tional features are food booth, door prizes, seafood and a live
band. All parishioners and the public are welcome.
Parish Hall parking lot, 812 West 36th Street.

ed by the Diocesan Archives. They are a useful source of infor
mation about the city’s past.

Back To School Party
St. Anne’s Youth Group, Columbus, held a “Back to
School Pool Party & Cook Out.” Swimming, volley ball,
pool, soccer, and other events took place. Mr. & Mrs. Bur
ton Lesh opened their Home to the Youth of St. Anne’s
Parish. Maria Pate & Tom Albertsen were Youth Advisors.

An “Oktoberfest” will be held October 12, (4:00 P.M.-8:00
P.M.) at St. Anne’s School Cafeteria Columbus. German
Style Food and Dessert Bar will be featured. Adults to 9

Aquinas Enrollment Increases By 10%
When Aquinas High School, Augusta, opened its doors
last week for the ’85-86 school year, they welcomed a total
school enrollment for 375 students, an increase of nearly ten
percent over last year.
“The message is out that we’re a strong school,” said Sr.
Laura Ann Grady, who is beginning her second year as prin
cipal and her twelth year at the school. “I’m still getting calls
Planetarium Lecture
The planetarium show, “Red Giants and White Dwarfs,”
will be presented September 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, and 29
(Saturdays and Sundays) at 3 p.m. at the Savannah Science
Museum. Admission is $1 per person.
The planetarium dome will show all the stars as they look
over Savannah on a September evening. Stars are different
colors—some red or blue, others yellow like our sun—with
the color of the star revealing its age and temperature. Red
giants are older and cooler than most blue stars, and white
dwarfs are remnants of dying stars.

The Highland Avenue school has a diversified student body
and an honors program for the college bound. “About 90 per
cent of our students go on to college,” said Sr. Grady. “We of
fer three academic levels to serve the differing needs of all
our students.”
Improvements to the grounds and physical plant have step
ped up in recent weeks, due largely to a dedicated, generous
group of parents, Sr. Grady said.
William Ingersoll Jr.
Joins Pacelli Staff
William (Pete) D. Ingersoll, Jr. will be
joining Pacelli High School’s staff for the
school year 1985-86.
He comes to the Columbus school for
Chavala High School. He will be teaching
Government and Economics and coaching
Ingersoll football and basketball for the Vikings.
Social Ministry Training Sessions
The Office of Social Ministry of the Diocese of Savan
nah announces the following staff and volunteer Train
ing Sessions:

“Spirituality of Social Ministry” — Mary Carter
Waren St. Anthony’s Church — Savannah.
Mary Carter Waren has a Masters degree in Pastoral
Ministry from St. Thomas University, Miami, where
she is currently teaching. For five years she directed a
parish-based Social Ministry program in Winston-
Salem, North Carolina. She has developed program
dealing with conflict-resolution, direct service
outreach programs, and POTC (Peacemakers of the
Community) an alternative to the university ROTC
programs.

“Human Service Planning and Networking” —
Sister Marie Sullivan, O.P. St. Juliana’s Church—Fort
Valley.
Sister Marie directed the multi-purpose Social
Ministry Program at Seton Center in Kansas City,
Missouri for twenty years, developing many direct ser
vice projects and networking with other Churches and
agencies. She is currently coordinating a network of
Christian Emergency Help Centers through the Chris
tian Council of Metro Atlanta. She also serves as a
mediator at the Neighborhood Justice Center and a
volunteer at the Open Door shelter for the Homeless in
Atlanta.
