BY SUSAN P. MUCHA
The Aquinas High School Parents
Association will hold its 2nd annual auction
on Thursday, October 10 at 7 p.m. in the
Garden Center on Telfair Street in
Augusta. Tickets are $25.00/person, tax
deductible.
Realizing the importance of parent in
volvement in their children’s school, the
AUCTION ITEM — Mrs. Susan
Rice, president of the Aquinas
High School Parents Association
and Mrs. Beth Rogers chairman
of the Auction Committee admire
a vase donated for the event to be
held October 10 at 7 p.m. in the
Garden Center in Augusta.
Aquinas parents reorganized their parent
group to provide an opportunity for all
parents to participate in helping their
school and thereby benefitting their
children.
Last year under the direction of Mrs.
Linda Cook, the Association decided to
hold their first auction. Setting a goal of
$20,000 the parents got busy soliciting,
donating items and selling tickets to what
was promised to be a “gala evening.” Mrs.
Molly Osteen & Mrs. Susan Rice coor
dinated the event and were largely respon
sible for the successful evening which net
ted $37,000.
An endowment was established and
through wise investment the principle is
continuing to grow. The interest accrued is
used to enhance the school on a yearly
basis. During the past year the science
department was refurbished and im
provements were made to the physical
plant.
Mrs. Susan Rice, President of the
Aquinas Parents Association has
designated Dr. and Mrs. Mike Rogers and
Mr. & Mrs. Monty Osteen as chairmen of
the auction and Dr. and Mrs. Terry Cook
as ticket chairmen. Ready for the auction
block are a new car, tickets to the Georgia
- Florida Game, vacation packages, a face
lift, golf cart, and much more.
