Roast" - October 30
Wilhelmina Hall To Be Honored In Unique Fashion
Wilhelmina Hall will be honored in uni
que fashion, in recognition of her contribu
tions to the religious, educational, cultural
and civic aspects of community life the
past 30 years of Albany, Dougherty County
and Georgia, at the Wilhelmina Hall Roast
Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Heritage House in
Albany.
An impressive array of Roaster
speakers will each be granted five minutes
to Roast the nominee. If these prominent
personages, each of whom has con
siderable credentials of achievements, ap
proach the occasion with some caution, it
is because Mrs. Hall will not be hampered
by time restrictions in responding to the
Roasters.
Co-Roastmasters for the event will be
Bee McCormack, prominent Albany
businesswoman, along with her sister, An
na Louise McCormack, of the Albany
Woman of the Year Award, and Dr. Carl
Gordon, an Albany physician and owner of
WTSG-TV television station (Channel 31)
there.
Roast honoree Wilhelmina Hall is per
sonnel director of the Dougherty County
schools, a post she has held since 1979,
prior to which she was a teacher in Albany
schools for 22 years. She is former Star
Teacher of the Year.
She and her husband. Jack Hall, who is
plant director of Albany State College, are
lifelong Albany residents. They are
members of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church
of Albany, of which they are ministers of
communion.
Mrs. Hall is former national first vice
president of the National Council of
Catholic Women, former president of the
Savannah Diocese of Catholic Women and
former president of the Albany Council of
Catholic Women.
She is vice chairman of the Dougherty
County Public Library, and is a former
member of the board of directors of United
Way, Flint River Girls Scouts Council and
Thronateeska Heritage Foundation.
Mrs. Hall is a member of the Georgia
State Board of Nursing Home Ad-

earlier this year by Gov. Joe Frank Har
ris. She is also a member of the board of
directors of the Albany Ballet Theatre and
the Liberty House and former member of
the board of directors of the Easter Seal
Rehabilitation Society.
Mrs. Hall is now in her fourth year as
chairman of the board of directors of the
Judicial Service Agency in Albany, which
has brought Dougherty County national
recognition for its precedent-setting
criminal rehabilitation programs and ac
companying decrease in crime rate.
She also served as National Pecan
F'estival parade chairman for seven years.
All net proceeds from the Roast will be
contributed to the Judicial Service Agency
to support its present programs at the
specific request of Mrs. Hall.
Tickets for the Oct. 30th Roast are $25
each and may be obtained by sending a
check or money order to the Wilhelmina
Hall Roast Planning Committee, 218 N.
Washington St., Albany, Ga. 31701.
Social hour will be at 6 p in., followed by
the buffet-style dinner at 7 p.in., and the
Roast program at 8 p.m. For additional in

Faculty Meeting, Workshop
Conducted At St. Mary's - Americus
The faculty of St. Mary’s Religious
Education Program in Americus par
ticipated in a faculty meeting and
workshop in the parish hall on Saturday,
September 21, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00
p.m. “The Bible in Our Lives and in Our
Teaching” was the theme of the workshop.
The morning began with a prayer ser
vice followed by a faculty meeting con
ducted by Ms. Janet Barber, Coordinator

The Ladies Auxiliary of Holy Family
Council #5588, Knights of Columbus in
Savannah will hold their monthly meeting
on Tuesday October 15 at 8 p.m. in
Memorial Hall at the Council Home.

gram. The workshop consisted of three
presentations. 1) “Understanding the Bi
ble,” given by Sr. Ann Smith; 2) “A Plan
for Reading the Bible,” given by Sr.
Justine Marcucci; 3) “Using the Bible in
the Classroom,” given by Sr. Ellen
O’Connor.
The workshop concluded at 1:00 p.m.
with a luncheon. In addition to Ms. Barber
and the Franciscan Sisters, the following
were in attendance: Mrs. Allen Hagar,
Mrs. Carita Mathews, Mrs. Charlene
McGowan, Mrs. Traci Shell, Mrs.
Maureen Smith, Mrs. Claire Terry, and
