Highlights Of Next Week's Viewing - Film Fare
Sunday, April 26, 9-11 p.m. EDT (CBS)
“Pack of Lies.” A quiet respectable
British housewife (Ellen Burstyn) is used
to aid in the surveillance of her neighbor
(Teri Garr) in an investigation of
suspected spies in this Hallmark Hall ol
Fame production co-starring Alan Bates
as an intelligence agent. London-based
drama promises and should deliver insight
into a woman’s conflict between duty and
friendship in the world of lies and deceit
that she suddenly finds herself.
Sunday, April 26, 9-11 p.m. EDT (NBC)
“Desperado.” A roving cowboy (Alex
McArthur) fights formidable, corrupt
powers that control a mining town in this
old-fashioned depiction of old-fashioned
justice at work. Good cast of David
Warner, Robert Vaughn, Yaphet Kotto and
Gladys Knight suggests that this might
possibly be a refreshing change of pace.
Monday, April 27, 8:30-9 p.m. EDT
(NBC) Rebroadcast of the controversial
“Valerie” episode which dealt rather off
handedly with the subject of teen-age sex
and birth control. Parents might want to
use it as an occasion for talking with
adolescent offspring about the moral
reasons for premarital abstinence In any
event, it’s not the joking matter this pro
gram makes it out to be.
Monday, April 27, 9-11 p.m. EDT (NBC)
“Crime of Innocence.” Rebroadcast of the
dramatized plight of youngsters sent to
adult prisons for minor offenses and the
terror and pain this flaw in the juvenile
justice system causes families. Fact-
based drama stars Andy Griffith, Ralph
Waite and Shawnee Smith as the unjusty
incarcerated, abused minor. Not an in-
depth exploration of a serious problem, but
the second serving should sensitize more
viewers about the issue.
Tuesday, April 28, 9-11 p.m. EDT (CBS)
“The Other Lover ’’ Romantic drama in
which a married marketing director
(Lindsay Wagner) falls for her bachelor
client (Jack Scalia) as business relations
develop into a personal relationship of in
timacy and shared values. Their affair,
however, is adulterous and in soap-opera
land that usually means hurt, remorse and
retribution, especially for the woman who
lets passion rule her reason.
Friday, May 1, 8-9 p.m. EDT (CBS)
“Ringling Bros, and Barnum and Bailey
Circus.” As a respite from TV’s heavy,
fact-based dramatizations, the annual cir
cus is back for all the family to share the
fun of the extraordinary animal acts,
trapeze artists, clowns and Barbara Man-
drell’s musical tribute to the 117th edition
of the Greatest Show on Earth.
Friday, May 1, 9-10:30 p.m. EDT (PBS)
“Seize the Day.” A presentation of the
“Great Performances’’ series, this
dramatization of the novel by Saul Bellow
stars Robin Williams as the failed actor-
turned-salesman hero who battles a
classic mid-life crisis — his marriage has
failed, he has lost his job and a quack
psychoanalyst (Jerry Stiller) has stolen all
of his savings.
TV FILM FARE

an international smuggler whom he finds
through amorous escapades with Shirley
Eaton and Honor Blackman. A good deal
of adult comic material in sexual
references, but mature viewers who enjoy
escapist entertainment will find the film
harmless campy fun. The U.S. Catholic
Conference classification of the theatrical
version was A-III — adults. The Motion
Picture Association of America rating was
