Jaycees “Outstanding Young
Layperson”
Elizabeth Pascual (left) of Saint Frances Cabrini Church
was the 1999 Savannah Jaycees "Outstanding Young
Layperson of the Year" and Kristi Story (right) of Sacred
Heart Church was this year's runner-up. This award is
presented annually by the Savannah Jaycees in recog
nition of young people who demonstrate leadership in
their church and community. A breakfast was held in
their honor in March.

confirmation
Saint James PCCW hosts
INTERNATIONAL DINNER
Members of the Council of Catholic Women of Saint
James, Savannah, were asked to bring an ethnic dish to be
shared at their annual International Dinner, April 12. There
were Italian, German, Irish, Mexican, and Philippine recipes
as well as American salads, and desserts of indeterminate
origin.
As the season winds down, the May meeting will be the
occasion of election of officers for the coming year,
1999-2000.

Language fair produces winners
A t a recent retreat, catechumens, candidates and Rite Christian Initiation of
Adults sponsors shared their faith “stories” with the students of Saint
Michael School who are preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. After
input on the Gifts of the Spirit, adults and teens discussed these gifts as applica
ble to life today.
Father John J. Fitzpatrick, pastor, shared his “story” during break-time with
some R.C.I.A. members. Pictured with Father Fitzpatrick are Ginny Murphy, a
sponsor, and Jenny Corbin, Liza Rule, Mike Rule and Steve Hendrix, all R.C.I.A.
participants. Students are conversing in the background. “It was a good day of
sharing when new parishioners could get to know the younger members of the
parish as they prayed and learned together,” said Sister Mary Robers who direct
ed the day. There was more sharing, this time of pizza, which was provided by
Ms. Poole, school principal and some of the parents, at the conclusion of the day.
