Douglas Parish Mission
Saint Paul Parish in Douglas will
host the Redemptorists for a parish
mission October 17-23. Each eve
ning’s session will begin at 7:00 p.m.
and will be bi-lingual (English and
Spanish). Father Mat Kessler, C.Ss.R.
and Father Steve Benden, C.Ss.R.
will conduct the mission. Experience
the excitement of rediscovery and
spiritual renewal at Saint Paul’s.

“Hispanic ministry in
South Georgia” on
Odyssey
The Odyssey cable channel will
feature Hispanic ministry in South
Georgia made possible by Catholic
Extension Society donors on Octo
ber 18. The series “Our Family” will
“show the teamwork of Colombian-
born Father George Gonzales and
Irish-born Father Michael O’Keeffe
in the peanut-and cotton-growing
farmland of southern Georgia.”

Cursillo Weekends
The Savannah Diocese Cursillo
Movement will hold the Fall Week
ends at Saint John’s Center, Savan
nah. The Men’s Cursillo Weekend
will take place October 21-24 and
the Women’s Cursillo Weekend will
be October 28-31. Candidate appli
cations are due now. Cost of the
weekend is $75.

Retreat Weekend
“In God we live and move and have
our being” is the theme for a retreat
weekend of dance and prayer at the
Rock Hill, SC, Oratory. Carla DeSola
will lead the retreat that lasts from
7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 22,
through Sunday, October 24. The re
treat is open to all and costs $60.
Room and board cost another $60.

Communal anointing at
Saint James, Savannah
Saint James Church invites parish
ioners and clergy from all parishes in
the Savannah Deanery to celebrate a
Communal Anointing Mass on
October 23 at 11:00 a.m. Through
this sacrament, the parish hopes that
Jesus’ healing power may be present
to those in need. Who may receive
this sacrament? All baptized
Catholics who meet the following
criteria are eligible to be anointed:
1. who are now seriously ill;
2. who are temporarily ill because of
major surgery or other convalescent
illness, regardless of age;
3. who are chronically ill (heart dis
ease, asthma, chronic allergies, addic
tion, arthritis, etc.) regardless of age;
4. who are emotionally troubled,
regardless of age;
5. whose health is seriously impaired
by illness or advanced age;
6. seriously ill children who have suf
ficient use of reason to be strength
ened by this sacrament.
Family members, friends, and care
givers are encouraged to attend. A
light lunch will be served following
the liturgy. Reservations are request
ed in order to help the parish plan for
the Mass and luncheon.

Irish concert and
mission coming to Saint
James, Savannah
Carmel Boyle, a native of Ireland's
Boyne Valley; will present a free con
cert of Celtic Christian songs at Saint
James Church, Savannah, on October
23 at 7:30 p.m. In conjunction with
the concert, Carmel and Ger Holton,
co-founders of An Croi Holistic
Center in County Meath, Ireland, will
present a three-day mission on the
evenings of October 24, 25, and 26.
Ger Holton is an experienced work
shop leader and group facilitator, both
in Ireland and in the United States,
and maintains her own private practice
in personal and family counseling.
The concert on Saturday, and each
evening's mission will begin at 7:30
p.m., with a reception afterward.

Saint Francis Xavier,
Brunswick, to hold
PARISH MISSION
Father Martin Bednar, OFM, will
visit Brunswick from October 23-27
to hold a parish mission. Father
Marty has a busy schedule with visits
to the school, youth group, CCD
classes, and sick and shut-ins
planned. 8:30 Masses will be held on
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
mornings as well as an evening mis
sion service held in the church at
7:00 each of those nights. Many
opportunities for fellowship and
refreshment will be incorporated into
what promises to be an inspirational
five days.

Knights of Columbus Council
5588 will sponsor an Oktoberfest on
October 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30
