Black History Month
Three presentations are scheduled
for Black History Month at Saint
Teresa Parish, Albany. On February
13, Dr. Hyacinth Ezeamii, an assis
tant professor of public administra
tion at Albany State University and a
native of Nigeria, will speak on West
Africa—its people, customs, dress,
food and religions. On February 20,
Stella Davis, who spent many years
in foreign service with the U. S. State
Department in East Africa, will give
an illustrated presentation on this
region. On February 27, Yvonne
Christian will direct a youth presenta
tion of African music, dance, and
poetry. All presentations will begin at
10:45 a.m. in the McCormack Room.
International Dinner
Saint Joseph Parish, Jesup, will host
its annual International Dinner on
February 25 from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Food typical of Ireland, Mexico, Italy,
France and other countries will be
served. Takeouts will be available.
Proceeds will benefit Catholic Relief
Services. Tickets ($5.00 for adults,
$2.50 for children) may be purchased
from any member of the Parish
Council of Catholic Women or from
the parish office (912-427-9239).
Theology Seminar
Saint James Catholic Church
(Montgomery Crossroads at Whitfield,
Savannah) will host the Savannah
Deanery Theology Seminary, “Celtic
Spirituality” on February 25-26. The

on February 19.
Dolores Leckey is
currently a senior fel
low at the Woodstock
Theological Center, Georgetown
University, where she coordinates the
Church Leadership Program. She is
former Executive Director of the
Secretariat for Family, Laity, Women
and Yc ith at the National Conference
of Catholic Bishops (NCCB).
Leckey served as an official advi
sor to the American Catholic Bishops
at the Synods of 1980
on the family and in
1987 on the laity. She
has lectured at Tantur
in Jerusalem and for
the first Christian-
Jewish Conference,
and she participated in
official dialogues
between the Roman
Catholic Church and
the Reformed Church
of America.
The annual
Newman Lecture is
open to all without
charge as an annual
gift to the Church of the region, and
as a tribute to Cardinal John Henry
Newman, 19th- century scholar and
Oratory priest. The first session with
Dolores Leckey begins at 10:00 a.m.,
and her afternoon talk starts at 2:00
p.m. The schedule includes midday
Eucharist and brown-bag lunch.

Spirituality at Saint Giles Cathedral,
Edinburgh, Scotland, will speak. The
cost is $10.00 per person.

Pastoral Musicians
The Savannah Chapter of the
National Association of Pastoral
Musicians presents Father Joseph A.
Smith in a dialogue on the active
involvement of young Catholics in
the celebration of the Mass, at Saint

ters, liturgy planners, parish council
members, religious education teach
ers and interested young Catholics

Father Martin Bednar, OFM, of the
Franciscan Ministry of the Word, will
present a parish mission, “Ready for
2000 and Beyond,” at Sacred Heart
Church, Warner Robins, February

Women’s Retreat
On March 4, the Religious
Education Department of Sacred
Heart, Warner Robins, will host a day
of retreat for women of the Middle
Georgia area, focused on the promises
of the Jubilee Pledge. Talks will
explore the gifts of the Beatitudes and
how they help us to fulfill the promis
es. After registration and coffee, the
retreat will begin promptly at 9:00
a.m, and close at 2:00 p.m. Cost is
$10.00.

Superintendent of Schools: The Catholic
Diocese of Savannah is seeking a Superintendent of
Schools. The position is available July 1, 2000. The
Catholic Diocese serves fifteen elementary schools
and five secondary schools throughout southern
Georgia, with a student population of 6,488.
Schools in the Diocese are accredited through the
Florida Catholic Conference. Applicants are to be
practicing Catholics with strong communication,
leadership and financial skills. Candidates must
have at least a master’s degree in Administration
Education and appropriate certification. Candidates
must have ten years experience and at least three
