DDA
Appeal Sunday:
March 25-26
Savannah
I f the Diocesan Development
Appeal is to meet its $1.3 million
goal, $490,000 in pledges must be
made this weekend.
“In past years, we’ve been about
30% percent closer to the goal at this
point of the DDA”, reports Pat
Signs, Director of Stewardship for
the diocese. When asked if she was
concerned about the lagging pledges,
Signs said that she was “prayerfully
optimistic”.
“We understand that many are still
making payments on their Jubilee
Campaign pledges,” she said. “We
are hoping that in honor of the
Jubilee Year, each family will give a
special gift. If those who have not
yet responded make a pledge,
regardless of the amount, we will
meet the target easily,” Signs said.
In a follow-up letter to parish
ioners, Bishop J. Kevin Boland reit
erates this. He said, “Your gift
whether large or small is important.
A single snowflake may hardly be
noticed, but when combined with
other small snowflakes, can trans
form the landscape into one of
incredible beauty. The same is true
of your gift. Combined with others,
it is the means for achieving tremen
dous good.”
Signs said that her office is trying
to make it as easy as possible for
people to make a gift. “Donors can
choose electronic drafts from check
ing accounts each month, or charge
it to Visa or Mastercard. Both of
these methods help reduce the cost
of sending monthly reminders. Gifts
of stock are also being received,”
she said.
This weekend each parish has been
asked to have a parishioner make a
presentation at all the Masses.
Pledge envelopes have been sent to
the parishes and will be available for
those who have yet to make a
pledge. As of this writing, 3,314 of
the 28,411 families in the Savannah
Diocese have made a contribution to
the DDA. The Appeal Sunday is
designed to reach the other 25,000.
According to Signs, Appeal
Sunday has traditionally been the
means for putting a significant num
ber of parishes over their target. She
is confident that it will be the same
for DDA 2000. “What we ask is that
each family or individual look at
what God has given to them
throughout their life, and make their
gift one of thanksgiving. Each one of
us has been blessed in some way,
and we all have a reason to say
thank you for God’s goodness in our
lives,” she concluded.
