Chancery
The Chancery is the bishop’s offi
cial administrative arm. Father
Francis J. Nelson, JCL, is Vicar
General of the diocese. Joan
Altmeyer is his secretary. Sister
Mary Faith McKean, RSM, is
Chancellor. Beverly Cooper is her
secretary. Ginger Ansel is Bishop
Boland’s secretary. Roxie Bryant
and Betty Purdy are the reception
ists for the Catholic Pastoral
Center.
Office of Stewardship and
Development
Ms. Patricia Signs, Director; Mrs.
Beautine Grayson, Secretary, Ms.
Cathy Smith, Assistant. The Office
of Stewardship and Development
is responsible for: parish and
diocesan stewardship programs,
Diocesan Development Appeal,
parish and diocesan planned giving
programs, and diocesan capital
campaigns.
Diocesan Finance Office
Deacon Jack Ben ware is Chief
Financial Officer, assisted by
Marie Bryant, Charisse Rouse and
Cathy Dyer. This office is respon
sible for: financial reports, parish
tax assessments, financial record
retention, remuneration schedules,
diocesan loans, parish Deposit and
Loan Fund, cash flow, various
billings to parishes, payroll, bud
geting guidelines, and property
insurance billings.
Employee Benefits
Cathy Dyer is responsible for new
employee information forms, lay
health care insurance, lay life and
long-term disability insurance, lay
retirement, tax-sheltered annuities
and clergy benefits.
Property & Liability Insurance
Tom Costello handles coverage—
property, liability and auto, risk
management, parish inspections,
claims management, Worker’s
Compensation insurance, and stu
dent accident insurance. Gloria
Stettler is the administrative assis
tant.
Facilities Maintenance &
Construction
Scott Clark is responsible for dio
cesan vehicles, building mainte
nance, remodeling, new construc
tion, contractors and architects.
Don Frew serves as construction
consultant on a number of projects.
Department of Religious
Education
Ann Pinckney is Director of
Religious Education and Lay
Formation. Isabelle Killorin is
Secretary, Sara Lloyd is Librarian,
and Cathy Smith handles Audio
visuals. The Department of
Religious Education exists to assist
the Diocese in realizing its mission
of total education and formation. It
does this by providing leadership
in research, development and coor
dination of religious education pro
grams in the diocese. The director
is liaison with the Loyola Institute
of Ministry Extension (LIMEX)
program, which offers advanced
degrees and certification to partici
pants in various groups around the
diocese, including the candidates
for the permanent diaconate.
Office of Youth and Young
Adult Ministry
Director: Vacant. This office
strives to encourage youths and
young adults in developing and
maintaining an active interest in
and commitment to the Catholic
Church and Sacramental Life.
Betty Purdy is secretary.
Office of Ecumenism
Father Michael J. Kavanaugh,
Director. The Office of Ecumenism
promotes, encourages and supports
ecumenical activities in the
Savannah Diocese with guidance
from the Diocesan Commission for
Ecumenism.
Catholic Schools Office
Sister Jackie Griffith, SSJ
Acting Superintendent of Schools:
Sister Rose Mary Collins, SSJ.
Administrative Assistant: Ms.
Rosemary Alexander. The Catholic
Schools Office is responsible for
the overall administration, organi
zation and instructional services
for the Catholic schools under the
auspices of the diocese. The Super
intendent of Schools administers
the affairs of the Catholic schools
under the direction of the Bishop,
and is the Bishop’s representative
to the schools. The office assists
the Bishop in fulfilling the mission
of education in the diocese by pro
viding the leadership in develop
ing, achieving and maintaining
quality Catholic and academic pro
grams and services.
Diocesan Archives
The Diocesan Archives’ collection
reaches back to 1796. Among the
tens of thousands of documents
housed in the archives are papal
bulls, letters of many U.S. Bishops,
and records of the development of
the Catholic parishes of south
Georgia. Papers and other materi
als of the 13 Bishops of Savannah
are stored here. Volunteers current
ly staff the archives until a new
archivist begins work July 1.
