ver two hundred Catholic women from
south Georgia gathered at Saint James
Parish, Savannah, for the 61st annual convention
of the Savannah Diocesan Council of Catholic
Women April 28-30.
The weekend began Friday evening with a gala
pre-convention party. The Spare Parts
Barbershop Quartet lent their colorful harmonies
to the festivities.
After the Saturday morning Mass, keynote
speaker Kate Boucher addressed the gathering.
Saturday afternoon, the convention split into
three workshops, dealing with “Church and
International Concerns,” “Legislative Concerns,”
and “Family and Community.”
At Saint James Parish Center on Saturday
evening, a social hour and banquet were held.
The “Southern Gentlemen,” a musical duo con
sisting of Marty Liebschner and Jamie Keena,
serenaded the ladies. Maggie Gray, Third Vice
President of the National Council of Catholic
Women, gave the banquet address.
Bishop J. Kevin Boland celebrated the Sunday
Mass, at which he installed the officers for the
coming year. The bishop also spoke at the
Sunday brunch.
