Parents
Catholic Social Services (CSS) of
Savannah, in partnership with Catho
lic Social Services, Inc., of Atlanta, is
seeking adoptive homes for minority
infants and infants with special needs.
There will be an information meeting
on open adoption services on May
12, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Most Pure
Heart of Mary Church, 902 W. 36th
Street, Savannah.

Retrouvaille
Retrouvaille (Rediscovery) is a pro
gram designed to provide help and
support to married couples who are
experiencing difficulties, brokenness
or loneliness. Retrouvaille is a pro
gram of the Catholic Church but is
open to couples of other faiths as well.
The next weekend is scheduled for
May 19-21.

Saint Mary’s Home for Children,
Savannah, will honor Ms. Edith
Johnson for her 42 years of service to
the children with a reception on May

Rev. Robert Girardeau’s father dies
J erry L. Girardeau, 60, died May 2 at his home in Brooklet. He was bom in
Bulloch County and retired in 1976 from the Navy as a chief petty officer
after 20 years of service. He worked 16 years in law enforcement and was a
certified post instmctor. He recently retired from the Effingham County
Sheriff’s Department as chief investigator. He was appointed to the board of
the Effingham Family Connection by the Effingham County Board of
Commissioners. He was a member of Saint Matthew Catholic Church and
the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret M. Girardeau of Brooklet; five sons,
Paul Anthony Girardeau of Marietta, Father Robert Alan Girardeau of
Augusta, Mark Allen Girardeau of Brooklet, Brian Lynn Girardeau and
Daniel Lynn Girardeau, both of Statesboro; seven grandchildren; five sisters
and two brothers. His funeral Mass was celebrated by his son, Father Robert
Girardeau, and twenty other priests on May 5 at Saint Matthew Church,
Statesboro. Father Michael H. Smith delivered the homily and Bishop J.
Kevin Boland offered the final commendation.

Memorial Day Mass at
Andersonville
The annual Memorial day Mass
for the nation’s war dead will be cele
brated at the Rostrum at the Ander
sonville National Historic Site at
11:00 a.m. on May 29. Fourth Degree
Knights of Columbus will serve as
Honor Guard for this Mass. The prin
cipal celebrant will be Bishop J.
Kevin Boland. The homilist will be
Father George Gonzalez, pastor of
Saint Mary Church, Americus. All
Assemblies are encouraged to partici
pate in the Honor Guard or simply to
attend. In the event of inclement
weather, Mass will be celebrated at
Saint Mary’s Church, Americus.
