Thursday, August 31, 2000 The Southern Cross, Page 7 High school highlights Saint Vincent’s Academy, Savannah, is the oldest Catholic high school in Georgia—the all-girls’ school dates back to 1845. Mike Madison, a junior at Mount de Sales Academy, Macon, has been ranked # 2 in the nation this year in the Gentlemen’s 16-18 year-old Recurve Division of the National Archery Association. He finished first in the Junior Olympic National Mail-In Tournament, second at the Junior Olympic National Championships, and first in the adult division at the Georgia State Games. Mike is also the Georgia and Southern U.S. Champion for the second consecutive year. At the National Target Championships in Canton, Michigan, this month, he was part of a three-man team of Junior Olympians that ranked third behind the U.S. Olympic Team and Texas A & M (the NCAA champions). Saint Joseph Church, Augusta, presented the Father Michael J. Ring Scholarship to Aquinas High School for the academic year 2000 on August 6. The one-year full scholarship was presented to Matthew Coleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Coleman of Saint Joseph Parish. The newly-founded scholarship is presented by the parish in honor of Father Ring, pastor of Saint Joseph’s from 1985-1997. Pictured above are the Colemans, Father John J.
