i 0 0 * Diocese of Savannah hern (tross Vol. 80, No. 37 Thursday, October 26, 2000 Women of Note in Diocese —see page 3 $.50 PER ISSUE Diocese honored with Proclaim Award Washington T he Diocese of Savannah is a 2000 Proclaim Award winner in the Multimedia Campaign category. The diocese won the award, given annually by the Catholic Communi cation Campaign, for its use of TV, radio, print and Internet media during 1999 to prepare for the triple celebra tion of Jubilee Year 2000, the 150th anniversary of the diocese and the 100th anniversary of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, which occur this year. Barbara D. King, director of com munications, and Ann Pinckney, director of religious education, ac cepted the award at the Unda-USA annual assembly in Orlando in September. The U.S. Catholic Con ference presents the awards at the convention of Unda, a Catholic asso ciation for communications profes sionals. The Diocese of Savannah has won Certificates of Merit from the CCC in the past, but this is the first for a Proclaim award. Thirteen Proclaim awards were given this year to 11 dioceses. The CCC produces and supports media projects that promote Gospel values; it is funded by an annual col lection in Catholic parishes nation wide. The U.S. bishops created the CCC in 1978 and established the Proclaim Awards in 1981. Bishop Joseph A. Galante, Coad jutor Bishop of Dallas and incoming chair of the USCC Communications Committee, chaired the 2000 Pro claim Awards jury. Kevin Boland celebrated Mass at Saint Peter Claver Church, Macon. After the Mass, he blessed a new shrine to the new saint, canonized October I. Saint Katharine was a Philadelphia heiress who devot ed her life and fortune to the poor, founding the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. Saint Peter Claver Church and School benefited from her generosity. Left: Father Brett A.
