Diocese honored with Proclaim Award
Washington
T he Diocese of Savannah is a
2000 Proclaim Award winner in
the Multimedia Campaign category.
The diocese won the award, given
annually by the Catholic Communi
cation Campaign, for its use of TV,
radio, print and Internet media during
1999 to prepare for the triple celebra
tion of Jubilee Year 2000, the 150th
anniversary of the diocese and the
100th anniversary of the Cathedral of
Saint John the Baptist, which occur
this year.
Barbara D. King, director of com
munications, and Ann Pinckney,
director of religious education, ac
cepted the award at the Unda-USA
annual assembly in Orlando in
September. The U.S. Catholic Con
ference presents the awards at the
convention of Unda, a Catholic asso
ciation for communications profes
sionals.
The Diocese of Savannah has won
Certificates of Merit from the CCC
in the past, but this is the first for a
Proclaim award. Thirteen Proclaim
awards were given this year to 11
dioceses.
The CCC produces and supports
media projects that promote Gospel
values; it is funded by an annual col
lection in Catholic parishes nation
wide. The U.S. bishops created the
CCC in 1978 and established the
Proclaim Awards in 1981.
Bishop Joseph A. Galante, Coad
jutor Bishop of Dallas and incoming
chair of the USCC Communications
Committee, chaired the 2000 Pro
claim Awards jury.

Shrine dedicated to Saint Katharine Drexel
On Sunday, October 8, Bishop J. Kevin Boland
celebrated Mass at Saint Peter Claver Church,
Macon. After the Mass, he blessed a new shrine
to the new saint, canonized October I. Saint
Katharine was a Philadelphia heiress who devot
ed her life and fortune to the poor, founding the
Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. Saint Peter
Claver Church and School benefited from her
generosity. Left: Father Brett A. Brannen, pas
tor, Sister Anne Regina Corcoran, SBS, Sister
