Father Michael j. Kavanaugh, pastor (left), looks on as Patrick
Rodriguez enrolls as a candidate for first Communion, with help from
his parents, Frank and Myra. According to Father Kavanaugh, this
annual ceremony of enrollment encourages the community to pray
for the children and their families during their time of preparation,
and expresses the community’s concern and engages them, through
prayer, in the ongoing preparation of the children. The candidates
will experience the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time
during Advent, and will receive Holy Communion for the first time in
May.

Knights contribute to Social Apostolate
Frank Baker (left) and Larry Iwanski (right), past Grand Knights of Savannah-area Knights of Columbus councils, present
a check from the Fourth Degree for $1,000 to Sister Pauline O’Brien, MFIC (center) for the Savannah Social Apostolate
Renovation Fund. Area Knights have contributed over $2,000 to the fund. Right: The new kitchen is almost complete; it
will be larger and completely “up to code.” Hot meals are one part of the total program that includes all aspects of
homelessness prevention for individuals and families. The renovation will enhance the Social Apostolate’s entire range of
services and allow it to focus on its holistic program.
