OBITUAHIES.
Ouachita Cos., Ark., Oct. 1, 1860.
Brethren Editors : —By request I send the notice
of the death of our beloved and much esteemed
friend JOSEPH W. PERRY, Jr., who departed this
life March 4,1860, of Pneumonia, at the residence of
Dempsy Pace, of Clark Cos., Ala. He was born in
Sumpter Cos., Ala., Nov. 28, 1835, and emigrated to
Ouachita Cos., Ark., Feb. 1850, where he lived up to
a few weeks before lus death. He was beloved by all
who knew him, he was an obedient son, and affec
tionate brother, he leaves a father, a mother, brothers
and sisters, as well as numerous relations and friends
to mourn their loss, but we have a hope that our loss
is his eternal gain. He was a well wisher in the
cause of the Old School Baptists, although he had
never joined the church militant, he left the consol
ing news a short time before his death, that he would
soon be with Jesus, which was far better than all the
glory of this world.

I'm Growing Old.
BY J. G. SAXE.
My days pass pleasantly away;
My nights are blessed with sweetest sleep;
I feel no simptoms of decay;
I have no cause to mourn nor weep ; >
My foes are impotent and shy;
My friends are neither false nor cold,
And yet of late I often sigh—
I'm growing old!
My growing talk of olden times,
My growing thirst for early news,
My growing’apathy to rhymes,
My growing love of easy shoes,
My growing hate of crowds and noise,
My growing fear of taking cold,
All whispers in the plainest voice,
I’m growing old.
I’m growing fonder of my staff;
I’m growing dimmer in the eyes;
I’m growing fainter in my laugh ;
Pm growing deeper in my sighs ;
I’m growing careless of my dress ;
I’m growing frugal of my gold ;
I’m growing wise: I’m growing—yes,
I’m growing old 1
I see it in my changing taste:
I see it in my changing hair :
I see it in my growing waist:
I see it in my growing heir;
A thousand signs proclaim the truth,
As plain as truth was ever told,
That even in my vaunted youth,
I’m growing old!
Ah me! my very laurels breathe
The tale in ray reluctant ears,
And every boon the hours bequeath
But makes me debtor to the years !
E’en Flattery’s honeyed words declare
The secret she would fain withhold,
And tell me in “ How young you are 1”
I’m growing old!
SOUTHERN BAPTIST MESSENGER.
Thanks for the years ! whose rapid flight
My sombre muse too sadly sings ;
Thanks for the gleams of golden light
That tint the darkness of their wings;
The light that beams from out the sky,
Those heavenly mansions to unfold,
Where all are blessed, and none may sigh,
I’m growing old!”

A CIRCULAR TO THE PRIMITIVE
BAPTISTS.
Dear Brethren —Previous to the death of my
husband, Elder Benjamin Lloyd, author of the Prim
itive Hymns, he requested that his Hymn Book bu
siness should be carried on for the accommodation of
the Primitive Baptists. His family will carry on the
book business just as it was during his lifetime. We
will continue to have the books published—always
keeping a full supply on hand so that our agents and
all others can order them at any time ; and we will
be thankful to meet their orders promptly. We hope
that all the brethren and friends who have heretofore
been acting as agents for the Hymn Book, will con
tinue to exercise their influence and assistance in our
behalf.
Very Respectfully,
‘ NAOMI A. LLOYD.
