Bethesda Rewards Outstand¬
ing Boys At Annual Rites
Prizes and awards including a sight¬
seeing trip to Chicago were given out
at the promotion exercises held this
summer by Mr. Livingston. The exer¬
cises were held in the Whitefield Memo¬
rial Chapel.
The program began with the first
to the fourth grade singing the Twenty
Third Psalm. Everyone joined in sing¬
ing “America the Beautiful.” The boys
of the seventh and eighth grades put
on a skit called “Bible Baseball” under
the direction of Mrs. Ruth Stoner. John¬
ny Miller and Delano Adams played
piano pieces and Ronnie Powers recited
a poem, All joined in singing “Bells
of Bethesda. 9 9 Promotions were an¬
nounced by Miss Elizabeth Johnson,
principal of the school, and Willie
Lane, Jr., teacher.
After the awarding of prizes, the pro¬
gram closed with the singing of “Beau¬
tiful Bethesda. 99
The winners and their prizes were:
William Ford and Charles Evans, who
shared a $25 war bond given for good
citizenship by American Legion Posts
36 and 135. Madison Hiott. Charles
Gill, and James Miller won a $25 prize
each from the Percival R. Cohen Me¬
morial. David Newton was awarded $10
for the best record in elementary school
by George A. Mercer, Jr., Memorial.
Bobby Johnson won $10 as best all round
younger boy from the Jacquelin Hil¬
ton Memorial and his name will be in¬
scribed on the Hilton loving cup with
former winners. Mike Edmondson won
the $10 farm prize awarded by the
James I. Bennett Memorial. Raymond
Lanier was awarded $10 for the best
record in the upper grade from the
Fred Simpson Memorial Prize, The
most sought after award, a sightseeing
trip to Chicago from Alumnus Ollie
Baker, was won by Bobby Morris and
Charles Evans.
