Saturday morning, November 23,
Chancellor Sanford called a confer
ence of the presidents o the Colleges
in the University System. The subject
they discussed was the financial con
dition of each institution in the Uni
versity System at present and in the
future. v

Registrar J. T. Morris states that
there was a notable increase in the
number of students making the privi
lege and Dean's lists this month over
that of the first month. His records
also show that there was a decrease
in the number of courses failed.
In the sophomore class living
Stewart made the highest average
among the young men by averaging
92. Nell Cook led the young ladles
with an average of 91.6. Only 34
failed in one or more courses; 72
(49%) made the privilege list; and
23 (15%) were placed on the Dean’s
list.
Fannie Davidson led the young
ladies in the freshman class with an
average of 96. This was also the
highest average in the entire student
body. Billy Rutherford led the young
men with 92.6, followed closely by
Thomas Sanders with 92.3. There
were 108 (49%) freshmen on the
privilege list, and 29 (13%) were

Registrar Morris Attend
Southeastern Association
On December 6, President Brown
ing and Registrar Morris left to at
tend the annual meeting of the South
ern Association of Schools and Col
leges, which meets in Memphis, Ten
nessee. M.G.C. is a member. This
accredited association holds meetings
on all phases of education.
Theatre Arts Group
To Present Plays
On Thursday night, December 12,
the Theatre Arts Group will present
two one-act plays in the college audi
torium. The first is a drama “Where
the Cross is Made” by the famous
playwrite, Eugene O’Neil. The sec
ond play is a farce, “Spreading the
News.” Those taking part in the plays
are W, G. Hope, Annette Rumph,
Lee Boughman, Gerry White, Herbert
Meyers, Helen Davis, Helen Forehand,
Elise Pattersion, Paul Benedict, Jack
Smith, Cecil Peacock, Buford Wood,
David Bowen, Arthur Parsons. The
plays are directed by Professors Lila
Davy and W. G. Hope, sponsors of
the group.
The admission charges will be ten
cents for students and fifteen cents
for adults; The Theatre Arts Group
feel that these productions will be
the highlight of their work this year.

BLECKLEY COUNTY RADIO PROGRAM

Faculty With Banquet
The Home Economics: Department,
under the direction of Miss Margaret
Roper, entertained the faculty and
their wives at dinner, Thursday even
ing at 8 o’clock in the Home Eco
nomics Hall. The Christmas motif
was used distinctively in the decora
tions and entertainment.
Red pon-pon bouquets of silver and
gold tipped glass sips were the cen
terpieces for the table. The holders
for the red candles were made of
the same silver and gold tipped red
glass sips. Small Christmas trees in
marshmellow carts drawn by a crack
er animal made attractive place
cards. A Christmas tree and candles
were effectively used in the decora
tions.
The program was opened with a
welcoming speech by Anne Tfunnell
who was hostess on this occasion.
President Browning responded; Mil
dred Perkins sang and Mary Ander
son gave a reading. A trio, composed
of Edna Bedingfield, Alice McCook,
and Julia Jacobs, sang. Letters to
Santa Claus were written by the
faculty.
The menu carried out the Christ
mas colors of red and green.
The Department merits the com
pliments which it received from the
guests on this artistic project.

A.ND HAPPY NEW YEAR
On November 25 Mr. Chester
Soucek, a representative of the Un
derwood Typewriter Company, vis
ited the school. Mr. Soucek is The
Former World’s Amateur Champion
Typist. His official record is 134 net
five-stroke words a minute for one
hour.
Mr. Soucek gave several demon
strations including 144 five stroke
words per minute, 130 five stroke
words per minute with a coin on his
right wrist, 135 five-stroke words per
minute while spelling aloud words
given out by Miss Phillips, and 126
actual words in 30 seconds from a
familiar selection.
Mr. Soucek stressed the necessity
of rhythm which is best obtained by
movement of the fingers only and not
by wrist movement. He demonstrated
this by accurate speed with a coin
on his wrist.

Speaks
Thursday night, November 28, the
W.S.B'. radio station recorded a sa
lute to Bleckley Coupty from the
College Auditorium. The salute was
broadcasted in transcription by W. S.
B. the following Saturday night, No
vember 30, at eight-thirty o’clock.
The program consisted of Cochran
and Bleckley County performers only.
Mr. Marcus Bartlett -of W.S.B. of
ficiated as Master of Ceremonies.
The miscellaneous program was as
follows:
A trio: “Come Unto Me,” an ar
rangement of Schuberts’ Serenade,
by Mrs. Whitt Reeves, Mrs. Jordan
Fisher, Mrs. Lewis Thompson. The
piano accompanist was Mrs. John
Anderson.
A discussion of the History of
Bleckley County by Col. L. A. Whip
ple, Representative from Bleckley
County in the General Assembly.

Forensic Club Holds
Preliminaries
From tryouts on Friday, November
27 and on Monday, December 3 the
following members of the college de
bate team .have been selcted as the
college debate team to debate Ameri-
cus very soon; Goldie Davidson, Paul
Benedict, Juanelle Barbee, and Je
rome Folsom. Alternates are Fannie
Davidson and Mary Anne Minyard.
Nearly all of the members of the
Forensic Club entered the contest.
The judges were Miss Lila Davy,
Mr. Blackmore, and Mr. Fulton.

EDITOR AND REPORTER
ATTEND PRESS MEET
Miss Goldie Davidson, editor of The
Kernel, and Miss Annette Rumph,
star reporter, attended the press meet
for junior collges at Athens Decem
ber 6-7.
This meet was sponsored by the
University of Georgia chapter of
Signa Delta Chi, professional journ
alism fraternity, and the Red and
Black, University campus weekly.
The program enjoyed consisted of
a banquet Friday night, and lectures
and round table discussions Saturday
morning. After the banquet, the edi
tors attended the University Thea
ter’s production "What a Life” as the
guest of Director Edward C. Crouse.
Wright Bryan, managing editor of
the Atlanta Journal, spoke.
