Kulick Represents Us At Birmingham Confab Paul Kulick, Executive Secre¬ tary of the Savannah Jewish Council, represented Savannah at the eleventh annual conference of the. Southeastern Region of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, held in Birmingham, Ala., on December 8 and 9. Representatives from forty Jew¬ ish Federations, Welfare Funds and Community Councils in the nine states making up the re¬ gion attended the conference, which was devoted to a discussion of the problems faced by Jewish communities in the post-war pe¬ riod. Among the topics covered in the sessions were: Regional Plan¬ ning for the Aged; Welfare Fund Budgeting; the National Advisory Budgeting Proposal: and the Com¬ munity Relations Programs. Mr. Kulick will present a re¬ port on the conference at an early meeting of the Savannah Jewish Council. Alliance Continues Servicemen's Program The important .job of. serving the social and recreational needs of the Jewish men and" women in military service still stationed in this area, formerly carried on by the U. S. 0.—J. W. B., under the auspices of the Savannah Army and Navy Committee of the Jewish Welfare Board, has been taken over by the Alliance. This service will continue un^il all of the military installations in this area have been, c.losed and there is no further need for such serv¬ ices. Dances are still held every Sat¬ urday evening at the Alliance, with the Junior Hostesses of the former U. S. O.—J. W. B. in charge. Refreshments are served and from 40 to 50 servicemen at tend these functions. On Sunday evenings, a buffet: supper is served to servicemen,, with an informal social period fol¬ lowing. I. Friedman, President of the Council, when the representatives from the 22 organizations, comprising the Council, met to elect twelve Still Time To Give To Building Fund And Include In '45 Tax With only a few days left until the end of 1945, our headers are reminded that there is still time to make a contribution to the Building Fund of the Alli¬ ance and receive credit for deductions from their 194§ income tax returns. Contributions to the Building Fund will make it possible for the Alliance to erect, when conditions are most favorable, a mod¬ ern and complete Jewish Community Center build¬ ing, which will serve the needs of our growing com¬ munity and be a living memorial to our Jewish men and women who served so nobly in the military forces of our country. Contributions may be sent directly to the office of the Alliance. Workmen’s Circle David Hirsch is the chairman of the committee in charge of the New Year’s Party, to be sponsor¬ ed building, by the 244 Workmen’s West Broad, Circle at De¬ its on cember 31. On Sunday evening, January 20, Mr. Lichenstein, of New York City, representative of the “Vecker” publications, will lecture meetings on the world situation. Regular will be held on Sunday evenings, January 6 and 20; David B. Rossi will lead the discussion at Open Forums on Current Problems in Yiddish on Sunday evenings, Jan¬ uary 13 and 27. Women Offer U. of Go. Hillel Cantata Jan. 6 The B’nai B’rith Women of Sa¬ vannah will play hosts to a large contingent of Jewish students from the Hillel Foundation of the University of Georgia, when they come to Savannah on the week edn of January 5th and 6th to present an outstanding program, featuring the contata, “Our Bialik.” The cantata, which deals with the influence that the great Jew¬ ish poet, Chaim Nachman Bialik, has had on the Jewish people, will be presented in the auditorium of the Alliance on Sunday evening. January 6th, at 8:30 p.m., in a program open to the public. In addition, a group of Hillel mem bers will discuss the subject, “Ger¬ mans or Nazis Who are to Blame?” in a Town Hall pro gram. Sunday evening’s program will open with a speech of welcome by Mrs. Hyman Roth, president of the B’nai B’rith Women of Sa¬ vannah; Rabbi Sanford E. Saper stein, Director of the Hillel unit of the B’nai B’rith at the Uni¬ versity of Georgia, will respond to the welcome on behalf of the college group. The following Savannah stu¬ dents at the university are taking part in the cantata, directed by Mrs. Sanford Saperstein: Betty Adler, Audrey Meddin, Roslyn Platock, Harriet Kanter, Trudy Marcus, Evelyn Wills, and Doris Kooden. Savannah will be repre sented on the Town Hall program by Elliot Horovitz chairman, Murray Arkin, and Roslyn Pla¬ tock. Murray Arkin and Elliot Horovitz, will also enact parts in the cantata. The choral background of “Our Bialik” will be composed of a number of folk songs, set to music from Bialik’s poetry by outstand¬ ing modern Hebrew composers, and sung by the chorus of Hillel students. The visiting students will be the guests of honor at a dance to be held at the Alliance, under the auspices of the B’nai B’rith Wom¬ en, on Saturday evening, January 5th, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Mem¬ bers of the A.Z.A. and B.B.G. groups B’rith in Savannah, units of the B’nai Youth Organization, have been invited to the dance, as have servicemen stationed in this area. Refreshments will be served at the dance. He has been ac¬ tive, as a participant and as a leader, in the work of the Alliance for the past twenty years. He has served as a club member and club leader; participated in ath¬ letics and cultural activities; has served as chairman of many com¬ mittees, and Alliance membership campaigns; and as a vice-presi¬ dent of the Alliance. He is a past president and secretary of the local B’nai B’rith Lodge; of the H. G. H. Society; and a vice president of the Savannah Zion¬ ist District.
