JEWISH ALLIANCE My tf-cmd&it diope .,. At the outset I wish to thank the Jewish Educational Alliance for having provided me with this means of expressing to the Savan¬ nah Jewish community my heart¬ felt greetings and best wishes for the coming year. From the very first moment I arrived in Savannah, some five and a half years ago, I recognized the great communal service of, and expressed an appreciation for, the grand institution of our Al¬ liance. Since that time, through the able leadership and guidance of Paul Kulick and his fine as¬ sistants, the organization has truly come to serve our community from the cradle to old age, in a varied and expanded program that has justified our pride in the JEA. In speaking for the Congrega¬ tion B. B. Jacob I must express my admiration and gratitude for the cooperation we have thus fat been able to maintain between our two organizations, which I hope will serve as an incentive in more areas than hithertofore. Constructively speaking, this is as it should be, for one complements the other especially in terms c" service and programming where our youth is concerned. It is my fondest hope that th ; s fine relationship will continue for the greater benefits of our Sa¬ vannah Jewish community. With these I greet you on this festive and sacred season and wish you all a year replete with Divine Blessings. L’Shannah Tovu Ti koseivu. Rabbi Abraham I. Rosenberg, Congregation B. B. Jacob. I extend cot dial best wishes to my fellow citizens >f Jewish faith on their New Year’s Day. The celebration of this anniversary again comes at a time when the condition of the world is far short of the just expectations of men. It is my confident hope, however, that our efforts throughout the coming year will advance mankind toward that peace for which our country has so long striven, a peace founded on mutual good will and wider standing and cemented with the common endeavors of all peoples. HARRY S. TRUMAN, President United States of America A Jiappup And Ghallenxfivuj, Ijea/i .. At the approach of the New Year, I am happy to avail myself of this opportunity to extend greetings to the Jewish community of our city. After the tragic war years it is good to think that conditions for our widely scattered brethren are gradually improving, and that we may look forward to the coming year as one of ac¬ celerated progress in the allevia¬ tion of distress, as well as enabling many of our harassed brethren to stand on their own feet again. Such a prospect is indeed one to make this both a happy and chal¬ lenging year. Then, there is a personal word that I should like to add. At the moment I am rounding out my first year in Savannah. It has been a very full and eventual year. Added to the pleasure of ministering to an historic Con¬ gregation has been the satisfac¬ tion of finding here a well or¬ ganized and cohesive Jewish com¬ munity. I would express the hope that the spirit of unity in our community may continue to grow, and that the New Year may be for all of us a year of well-being and achievement. Rabbi Solomon E. As Rabbi of Congregation Agudath Achim, I extend to the entire Jewish Community of Sa¬ vannah our best wishes for a Healthy and Happy New Year, “LESHANAH TOVAH TIKA TEVU.” It is our fervent hope that the New Year of 5710 will bring its Blessings of Peace and Un¬ derstanding to all mankind. If we interpret Rosh Hashannah correctly we will realize that we are not merely upon the threshold of another year but upon that of a new year. Beacuse it is a New Year, we should aspire to new¬ ness in our lives so that we, as individuals, can bring into action our powers for usefulness unto as well as unto ourselves. Our interest and devotion to Jew¬ ish life and values must con¬ stantly be kept at a high pitch so that not a single one of us shall falter or fall by the way side. To be a Jew today is indeed a privilege not only because of our many contributions to American Democracy but also because of the realization of our dreams in the establishment of the youngest of all Democracies—the State of Israel.
