Alumni Notes
FRANKLIN S. JONES, JR.
Our school year is more than half
over, ami 1949 is but a memory;
the record stands, and the deeds
of 1949 have been recorded.
Clark celebrates Founders’ Day
program on that day is always very
on the 22nd of this month, and the
interesting; be sure you don’t miss
it.
The Panthers are in the middle of
the basketball season; let’s support
them along with our 'lew basketball
mentor Coach Epps.
1950 is still very young, and our
New Year’s resolutions are still
damp from being recently penned.
Let’s all strive to make Clark a
larger and better institution for the
years to come. Plan now to return
to your Almia Mater for class re
union.
The alumni wishes to welcome
Dr. Hsiang and Mr. William Robie
to the faculty.

Set Up At Clark By Dean Mazyck
The first step in the development
of a placement bureau for Clark
College graduates is being initiated
at the Atlanta college. A placement
directory, containing a resume of
the students’ achievements, educa
tional status including extra cur
ricular activities, religious back
ground, work experience, special
training, and a statement as to why
he is interested in teaching—since
the immediate object of the service'
is to place teachers—is being pub
lished.
This directory, which will contain
a page for each graduate and will
be sent to state supervisors of edu
cation, high school and elementary
school principals, and to other per
sons who generally seek the ser
vices of college graduates. Students
may request that the directory, or
a copy of their particular page, be
sent to any prospective employer.
Statements of the student’s person
ality will be secured from the vari
ous professors who know them best
and will be made a part of the
record.
This arrangement, it is expected,
will provide more work oppotuni-
ties and will enable Clark graduates
to make more contacts than they
would be able to make on their
own. However, the plan does not
individually.
Mr. H. Mazyck, conselor to men,
who is responsible for the program
believes that the placement bureau
will be as asset to the graduates
and will increase the possibilities
of their employment.
Dr. R. 0. Johnson spoke on the
subject: “What Makes Education
Tick.” He spoke of the growth of
education from that which was con
trolled solely by church denomina
tions, as was the case in former
years, to the present day status of
education as controlled by the state
and the various church groups.
The chapter president, James H.
Kelley, a senior from Birmingham,
presented Miss Georgie Gibbs, the
Chapter Sweetheart for the current
school year, a gift from the broth
ers at the College.
Brothers Elliott Waters and t
bers of the chapter publicity com-
Alexander Adams served as mem-
mittee.

The scoutmaster was giving his
troop a lesson in first aid. “Now
suppose,” he said, “there was an
explosion and a man was thrown
high into the air?” Turning to a
tenderfoot, he asked, "while the
nearest doctor was being called,
what would you do?”
The scout answered much too
qhickly: “I’d wait for the man to
come down.”
