XVIII, NO. 2 CLARK COLLEGE, ATLANTA, GEORGIA MAY 20, 1960 THE CLASS OF 1960 Dr. Perry Delivers Crogman Lecture The annual Observance of William iH. Crogman Day was held at Clark ‘College on May 5, with Clark alumna Dr. Lucille Stone Perry of Texas Southern University delivering the 1960 Crogman Lecture. Speaking on the importance of a sense of values, Dr. Perry urged students to seek “that truth of education which is the identification of the self.” She told them to decide what they want from life, then pay the price that must be exacted' to reach this goal. Of great importance, said Dr. Perry, is the question, of wheth er the things one asks of life are really worthy,JStje told .students that' they should not settle for Gavins And Banks Are '60 Val, Sal Mary Alice Gavins, English major and Woodrow Wilson Fel lowship winner, has won the distinction of being Valedictor ian of the class of 1960. Lois Elizabeth Banks, social science major, has been named Saluta- torian. The two top students were named on the basis of academic averages compiled at the end of the first semester this year. Miss Gavins won the top hon or with a 2.769 average (117 hours and 324 points) and Miss Banks became Salutatorian with ‘Continued ion page 2 TO GRADUATE Graduation Speakers Are Haynes and Ward Rev. L. L. Haynes of Fort Worth, Texas, will be Bacca laureate speaker here on May 29, and Rev. A. Dudley Ward, general secretary of the Board of Social and Eeconomic Rela tions of The Methodist Church, will be the speaker at. Com mencement on May 31. Wins Presidency Unopposed Brown More than 500 voters turned out last month to elect Benjam in Brown president of the Stu dent Government Association. It was just a matter of endorse ment, however, since Bro-yvn was unopposed in the election. Other winners in the unprece dented no-opposition voting were Daniel Mitchell, vice presi dent; Marjorie Wilson, secre tary; Mattie Jo Arnold, corres ponding secretary; Frank Gorse, business manager; Randall Pon der, treasurer; and Raymond Ragsdale, parliamentarian. SGA advisers are M. Carl Holman, W. V. Harper II, Dean Grace W. Phillips and Miss Vir ginia Orr. Raymond Williams To Address Clark Athletes Tomorrow Raymond Williams, head foot ball coach at Atlanta’s Henry McNeil Turner High School, will be the speaker at Clark’s annual Athletic Banquet, in Crogman Dining Hall tomorrow. Coach Williams is a 1949 grad uate. of Clark who was active in football, basketball and track during his collegiate days at Clark. He is vice-president of the Atlanta Clark Alumni Club and has been active with the or ganization for several years. Dr. Brawley At Moth. Conf. In Triple Role IDr. James P. Brawley, presi dent of Clark College, was ac tive in a triple role at the Gen eral Conference of the Meth odist Church, now in session at Denver, Colorado. Glover, from Philadelphia, Pa., was judged winner recently in an Essay Contest sponsored jointly by the Panther and Clank’s Alumni Association, which donated a prize of $10 for the winning entry.
