DETERMINATION
by Rose Marie Jordan
Determined to see Zeta Phi Beta Sorority grow was my only
hope and dream. Yes, I was determined not to let it. With
the help of our advisors, Sorors Arie O, Moreland and Jurell
Lloyd, I was able to get eight more young women whose ideals
were high and aspiring of Psi Chapter, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.
Theses young ladies are Sorors Costella Fowler, Merilyn Wal
ton, Josephine Lewis, Sandra Webb, Liz Sias, Janice Smith, Mary
Allen, and Merlene Gervin.
The decision of the Pan-Hellenic Council was really what brought
these girls over. Without them, I don’t think I could have survived
a whole year along. These girls are truly exemplifying sister
hood and togetherness. They want Zeta to be the best ever. We
are working hard to continue building our Sorority. It is up to us
to see that Zeta becomes^strong once again.
We had help from our untiring brothers, the men of Phi Beta Sigma
Fraternity. They too were the inspiration needed to see that
their sisters kept on pushing. With such brothers as Mr. Russell
Willingham and Mr. Clyde Hollis, we were able to be known once
again.
We also had the unselfish help of an Omega man, Mr. John Lloyd,
Soror Jurell Lloyd’s husband.
Without the help of all these wonderful people, Zeta would be an
unknown sisterhood.
We would be unknown to those who are not familiar with our ideals
and standards, unknown to those who only knew of Zeta from their
hometowns, and unknown to girls who could and would aspire to
become Zeta women.
We want the young ladies of Clark who aspire to become part
of our sisterhood to continue to strive and uphold your aspira
tions.
Little do many know of Zeta, but it is our goal to bring in young
ladies who really want to become a part of us.
Many do not know that the Zetas who originated from the brother
hood of Phi Beta Sigma, is the only true brother and sisterhood.”
We not only uphold our individual standards, but the standards
of each other.
Brothers and Sisters who stick by each other through thick and thin.
For if it weren’t for our brothers, Zeta would not be what it is
today.
So to all the young ladies who wish to become a part of our sister
hood, don’t stand back in the crowd fearing you’ll be' laughed at.
Let it be known that you want to be a Zeta Woman, not a girl.
Yes, a woman. Always remember this too, wherever you go a
Zeta Woman is always highly respected.

ZETAS JOURNEY TO
On Thursday, December 12,

McLendon Hospital to visit the
patients there. The girls took
fruit with them to give each pa

THE OBJECTIVES OF
ZETA PHI BETA
SORORITY
Our objectives are: to attain
finer womanhood, sisterly love,
and scholarship. These objec
tives have brought us together
in search of a specific goal.
That goal is to live up to the
standards of Zeta Phi Beta
Sorority and help all mankind
by giving our time, understand
ing and concern. We feel that
we possess the courage, the
desires, and the potentials for
a boning such a goal. We are
industrious in our work be
cause we know that the path
to achievement isn’t easy. We
are creative, not imitative;
therefore, we will shape the
path to our destiny in such a
unique and respectful way that

patients and most of them were
delighted with the girls visit.
They even met a Sigma who
was especially glad to see them.
Their visit was short, but in
the time they were there, it
was enjoyed by all.

THE
ZETA-LITE
CLUB
THE ZETA
GREEK SHOW
Who are the Zeta-Lites?
Where do they come from?
What do they represent?
The Zeta-Lite Club is a social
organization sponsored by
Soror Joethel Cooper. The
members of this club are young
ladies of high academic and
moral standards from Cohen
Middle School, who are aspir
ing to become members of Zeta
Phi Beta Sorority. These young
ladies represent the future of
Zeta; they have the personality,
drive, and dedication which are
essential parts of the charac
ter of the women of Zeta Phi
Beta Sorority. The Zetalites
are Zeta-lites because they are
seriously interested in service,
scholarship, and sisterly love
which is a part of the finer
womanhood—Zeta Phi Beta.
Zetas Observe
Founder’s Day
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was
founded January 16, 1920 by
Soror Arizona Cleveland, Fan
nie Pettie, Pearl Neal, Viola
Tyler, and Myrtle Faithful with
the encouragement of the found
ers of Phi Beta Sigma Frater
nity, thus making Zeta Phi Beta
and Phi Beta Sigma the first
true Sister - Brother Greek
letter organization. With this
thought in mind, Psi Chapter,
Zeta Phi Beta observed its
Founders’ Day by inviting Psi
Chapter, Phi Beta Sigma; Chi
Chapter, Phi Beta Sigma; and
Epsilon Beta Chapter, Zeta Phi
Beta to dine with them in Tha
yer Hall’s Crogman Dining Hall
on January 16, 1969.
The observance began with
the entrance of the Sorors and
Brothers to the strands of “I
Think I’m Going Out Of My
Head,” played by Mr. Robert
Hudson on the saxophone, ac
companied by one of the Psi
Chapters Sorors on the piano,
Merilyn Walton. An explana
tion of the occasion was given
to those present in the dining
hall by Soror Sandra C. Webb.
After dinner, the Sorors and
Brothers sang together in the
quadrangle.
“Oh, White and Blue, there is
nothing for you I wouldn’t do!”
Phi Beta is the Life, Psi Chap
ter is the Soul.
On Wednesday night, December 11, 1968, nine fine young ladies
added their uniqueness, charm, personality and Zeta “Soul” to
the festivities of the annual Greek show. They went with the
determination to TURN IT OUT!!
Was this a difficult task confronting them? NO!!
It all began with a single Probate, Rose Marie Jordan.
Slowly she took her place at the entrance. Before she entered,
she whispered a little prayer that strengthened her determina
tion to make her Big Sisters and Big Brothers of Psi Chapter always
remember this as their night, that night their Little Sisters left
them with a lasting memory of how proud they were.
Then came the words that started the show, “Probate, prepare
to march. Z-Z-Z-Phi-B”!!
There standing before a huge crowd of many Greeks as well
as non-Greeks was Rose, the Lone Probate, as she still had many
believing. „ *
Yes, many people still thought she, was a loner. Her introduc
tion was a very heartwarming speech about her “used to be sis
ters.”
Finally she made one last hopeful plea. “Won’t somebody please
come and help me? Big Sisters? Big Brothers? Anybody?”
Then it happened! From out of the crowd came the sound, Z-
Z-Z-Phi-B. There they were, the fine nine of Zeta Phi Beta
Sorority.
Cool, sharp, and dark. Led by Josephine Lewis, the Greek Show
was really a success for them.
They will always remember that night for many years to come.
For it was that night that the spirit of Zeta Phi Beta was in full
bloom. Nine talented young women upholding the standards of
Scholarship, Sisterly Love, and Finer Womanhood.
ZETA

Blue, White and Blue, there is nothing for you we wouldn’t do!"
United we stand, and together we shall conquer all!
The Doctors and Nurses app
reciated the girls of Zeta for
showing their interest and tak
ing time out to share them with
others.
They were invited to come back
again. And of course, they
will.
