I believe Dr. Henderson has vigorously assumed his role in
helping Clark College realize its full potential. He is dedicated
to a creed similar to that of Samuel Gould’s that Clark College must
be a place where new intellectual vistas are opened and exciting
discoveries emerge from dedicated scholarship; and that Clark
must be a place where each student learns to recognize his inner
and better self, and to use that better self as an instrument for the
shaping of an enlightened society.
President Henderson embodies the necessary philosophical con
tinuity to “get the job done.” He is lofty - -yet practical,cutting--
yet compassionate, steadfast--yet flexible.
Being a scientists, I find the following quote of great worth:
“One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men.
But no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.”
All of us here at Clark would agree that Vivian Henderson fits
in that quote both as a man and as a president.
I am convinced that Vivian Henderson would make significant
impacts in improving the educational process here at Clark and else
where in the nation. The world of America’s young is far broader
and more complicated than it used to be. He recognizes this. Yes
terday’s limited education for the many and full education for the
few has been swept away by the trend toward universal education. Hen
derson believes that today’s education must be geared to the needs
