“Our media is the means of liberation, an instrument of clarification, information, education and mobilization." Kwame Nkrumah VOL. XXXVIII NO. 2 The Clark College ENIHER CLARK COLLEGE OCTOBER 1974 r Clark Prepares Groundbreaking For New Physical Ed. Center By Vernard Howard Clark College has com pleted financing its propos ed $2.8 million Health Sciences and Physical Edu cation Center and is pre paring for groundbreaking ceremonies early in 1975. The cost of the new facility is covered in part by major grants from the Gustavus and Louise Pfeif fer Research Foundation, the Ford Foundation and a federal low-interest con struction loan. Local support includes grants from the Life In surance Company of Geor gia, the Rich’s Foundation and the Allen Foundation. Construction of the building will be a major part of Clark College’s de velopment of new curricula preparing students for ca reers in the allied health professions. The new building will permit the addition of curricula in physical therapy, occupa tional therapy and respira tory therapy. The new health sciences center will also house the college’s first gymnasium, swimming pool, and related physical education and recreation facilities. The building will include addi tional classrooms. The gymnasium in the center will probably be the biggest asset to Clark. It will bring an end to the basketball team practicing outside on the pave court and playing their home games in the gymnasium of Washington High School. This will also bring Clark- ites closer to home to take their physical education classes rather than walking over to the YWCA on Mor ris Brown’s campus. Athletic Director, Coach L.S. Epps said “the new Health Science and Phys ical education building will help the Clarkites majoring in physical education and offer many more options.” Coach Epps said that the new gymnasium will bring more intramural sports between students and dif ferent organizations. The proposed medical center for Morehouse, is slated to be completed by September, 1977.
