MARTA patrons who make more than eight trips per week will realize significant benefits by using either the weekly or monthly TransCard rather than paying single trip fares. On an annualized basis, persons using the monthly TransCard will even save more than persons using the weekly pass. For example, a person making ABERNATHY even offering sundry conces sions in the rapid-raid stations to help raise revenues. "MARTA claims they need an additional $9 million in revenues or in service deductions to achieve a $40 cent fare,’’ two transit trips every day, using the weekly TransCard, will pay $208 a year or 29 cents per trip. The same person, using the mon thly TransCard everyday, will spend $204 a year or the equivalent of 28 cents a ride. In a related action, the Board adopted a half-fare policy for the elderly and handicapped at all times except during the morning rush hour (6 a.m. to 9 a.m.) Mon day through Friday. Previously, elderly and handicapped riders were required to paythefullfare during both the morning and evening rush hours. from page 1 Abernathy said. F uttrell, Spicer Join Staff WCLK-FM Radio at Clark College will begin the 1980-81 academic year with the ap pointments of Jesse "JC" Futrell and OskerSpicer to the positions of Program Director and News Director respectively. Formerly Communications Specialist at Shaw University’s radio station in Raleigh, Futrell brings to WCLK a wealth of experience in both commercial and college radio, according to Terry Cobb, station manager. He is a native of Kenly and a 1976 graduate of Shaw University. While paying his way through college, which he finished in three years, Futrell held the positions of announcer, sports information director, technical director and public affairs direc tor at WSHA-FM. He was production assistant at WRAL-TV and radio announcer and public affairs director at WLLE Radio in Raleigh. Since graduation, Futrell has been production manager for WLLE Radio and held other positions at WSRC Radio in Durham, and WQMF-FM Radio in Greensboro. Spicer, a native of Memphis, has worked as a journalist with several news organizations. He has served as city editor of the Pittsburgh Courier, and later the Atlanta Voice. Prior to that, he was a reporter for WAOK radio station here in Atlanta, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Atlanta Daily World, and the Institute of the Black World. A 1972 graduate of Morehouse College, Spicer has studied at Lincoln University in Missouri and Atlanta University. He is a graduate of the Michelle Clark Summer Program for Minority Journalists at Columbia University. Spicer is an active member of the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists (AABJ), the National Association of Black Journalists, the Society of Professional Journalists - Sigma Delta Chi, and the Southern Collective of African American Writers. Prior to his recent ap pointment, Spicer taught newswriting and reporting classes here at Clark College. During the last two years, he has produced news programs for both WCLK and WRFG radio stations. One of the programs, "The Black News Digest", a production of the AABJ and WCLK, is currently being aired on local community radio stations. Freshman Block Party Aug. 27, 1980 Morehouse Parking Lot Senior Receives Award Gregory Among Two Students Receiving NAMCPAF Honors Behove Gregory is the recipient of the Sybil C. Mobley Award from the National As sociation of Minority Certified Public Accounting Firms (NAMCPAF). The award was presented to the Clark College student during the Ninth Annual Convention of the NAMCPAF August 5-9,1980, at the Sheraton - Dallas Hotel in Dallas, Texas. A senior majoring in ac counting, Gregory is the first Clark student to receive top honors from the NAMCPAF. Along with Lawrence Shephard of the University of Texas at Aus tin, Gregory was chosen for his outstanding academic achievements in the accounting profession. "I am very p leased to be one of the two persons selected for the prestigious award,” said Gregory. "This is an inspiration for me to achieve much greater heights.” Ms. Shirley Friar, assistant professor of accounting, Department of Business Ad ministration and Economics, said “After three years of recommen ding students for the Sybil C. Mobley Award for accounting excellence, I am pleased to an nounce that Belgrove Gregory, a Clark College senior, has been selected to receive this award. Prior to this year, Clark had only received honorable mention in the national awards competition. So the entire department is proud of this achievement.” A native of Antigua, West In dies, Gregory has consistently been named to the Clark College Dean’s List since 1977. In 1979 he was selected to represent Clark in Who’s Who in American Universities and College’s. Gregory is very active in several campus organizations at Clark. He was elected business manager of the Student Government Association in 1979, and is currently president of the Caribbean Oriented Students Association in the Atlanta University Center. Recently Gregory completed an intership with Main, Hurdman and Cranstoun, a certified public accounting firm in Atlanta, where he was res ponsible for editing financial reports and assisting staff ac countants. His immediate goal is to attend graduate school to receive a master’s in businessad- ministration, and become a certified public accountant (CPA).
