SEC, Setting the Rules By SHERYL KENNEDY Lifestyle Editor As nervous candidates dash to fulfill their last minute campaign details, the creative force behind the student elections process anixiously awaits the day the ballots are cast. Beyond the array of posters pushing slogans of support, student elections can require months of preparation along with a qualified group to tackle such a task known as the Student Election Committee. Each year the SEC, a team of studei *s that review applications submitted by candidates as well as set guidelines for campaigning, is comprised of representatives who sit on the CAU House of Delegates. Members of this committee range from students who live in resident halls to international students. The members of the committee change annually and are elected by the organization they represent. The identities are kept confidential with a chairman speaking on behalf of the committee. This year's chairman is Frank Robinson , a second year graduate student. The SEC is also accompanied by the help of advisement from appointed school officials. This year the SEC angered some candidates by implementing some new regulations. Here is a look at the rules. ♦No give aways- This prohibits candidates from handing out any non-related campaign material such as candy, balloons, or hats. ♦Posters and flyers on bulletin boards- This allows candidates to place their campaign articles only on spots designated by the SEC. ♦Verification of campaign paraphernalia All material that is to be handed out by the candidates must be cleared by the SEC.
