Does Public Enemy’s new album have the hard core raps that fans
have come to love or did P.E. sell out?
Public Enemy's long awaited album, Apocalypse '91 .. . The
Enemy Strikes Black, hit the record stores on Oct. 1. However, the
controversy over this album began even before it was released.
Public Enemy teamed up with Anthrax, a heavy metal group to do the
remix of "Bring The Noize," and people are saying that this union
signifies the end of traditional P.E. music.
However, fans will be pleased to know that this is not so.
Apocalypse '91 is full of the hard-hitting beats, massive scratching and
glaring sound effects that have become P.E. trademarks. More
importantly, they are still rapping about the conspiracy against Black
America.
"By The Time I Get To Arizona" is a commentary on how the state
of Arizona revoked the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, but not the
holiday of any White American. P.E. also addresses the media's negative
portrayal of Blacks in the songs, "A Letter To The New York Post" and
"More News At 11."
The album focuses on some key interracial issues as well. "How
To Kill A Radio Consultant," attacks Black radio stations that refuse to
support Black artists. There is also a message from a mock KKK member.
He thanks all of the Black criminals, drug dealers, killers, gang
members, and others for helping the KKK destroy the Black race.
Apocalypse '91 tells Blacks to stop letting White people abuse
them and to stop abusing themselves. It continues Public Enemy's
mission to educate a nation of people.

The news has been exploding with stories concerning famous
people involved in controversial situations. These individuals such a
LaToya Jackson and funk star Rick James, are receiving more attention
from these happenings than from their professional credits. Ms.
Jackson has been gracing news casts and television talk shows all over
America while promoting and defending her new book, "LaToya:
Growing Up in the Jackson Family." In her book she makes accusations
that her father, Joseph Jackson, regularly beat the nine Jackson
children when they were young, and that her mother, Katherine Jackson,
often stood by and condoned it.
With all of the public attention she has been receiving from her
book, as well as from her second nude layout in Playboy Magazine, Ms.
Jackson appears to be getting little or now attention for her singing
career. She has been in the entertainment business for over a decade, but
her career has not rocketed until now. Even her famous last name did
not keep her afloat in her musical ventures for long.
It appears that Ms. Jackson had to write this "nasty, tell-all" book
to make her stand out from the rest of her siblings.
Grand funkster, Rick James, is standing out lately while he
stands trial for charges that he, along with his 21 year-old girlfriend,
sexually abused and tortured a young woman in his North Hollywood
home for two days in July.
The woman alleged that James and his girlfriend tied her up,
threatened her with a gun, forced her to perform sex acts, and burned her
with a crack cocaine pipe.
James was the genius behind P-funk classics such as
"Superfreak", and "Give it to me Baby," during the mid-80's. But his
career plummeted at the oncoming of the 90's. Now James' name has
been resurrected in the media, not because of a great comeback album ,
but because of his alleged sexual abuse of a young woman.
Grammy Award-winning singer Luther Vandross will be in
concert at the Omni on Nov. 2. Other performers will include Sinbad,
Sounds of Blackness and Lisa Fisher, one of Vandross' former
background singers.
