Red Fox
Challenges
World With
Reggae Hip-
Hop Flavor
By Kimathi Lewis
Personals Editor
From Kingston to Flatbush, Red Fox challenges
the world with his reggae hip-hop style.
Born Garet Shelton, the reggae artist said he has
been singing since the age of 11. Fox, now age 21,
admits to being a crowd pleaser. His lyrics caus
ing hip-swinging, lip-sinking, rump-shaking party-
goers to groove as he rips the mic worldwide with
his “20 megaton thermonuclear vocal delivery” (as
he calls it).
With his mother living in the states and his
father dying when he was six, young Fox was left
under the care of his grandmother. But this
African Jamaican says he is by no means a
“mama’s boy.” Spending most of his time on the
streets of Jamaica, and later in Brooklyn, New
York, Fox contends he learned how to take care of
himself without any assistance. By following his
mentor Yellow Man (King of dancehall) and other
Red Fox
heroes in the reggae industry, Fox said he quickly
adopted the street slang of dancehall reggae.
Now his hard-core, reggae hip-hop, roughneck
style has earned him the recognition of a contem
porary in the reggae dancehall category. As a
bona fide deejay at the age of 21 Red Fox (dub
bing himself Red Fox because of his long red
hair) has toured everywhere from the Caribbean to
Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theater.
“I’m not about making money. I seek to edu
cate my black brothers and sisters through my
music,” he said. According to Fox, his hit singles
Dem A Murderer and Born Again Black Man
urges blacks not to give up the fight for black unity
and to accept themselves for who they are.
With his new album release, As A Matter Of
Fox, he said he continues to fight for black people.
Spreading real dancehall vibes internationally as
he thrills persons of all persuasion with a strong
voice. Fox said his message is coming straight
from the heart.
' S y s t a s ' Terri & Monica
Perform With Sexy Style
By Quencie Thomas
Contributing Writer
There was a time in the music industry when it appeared that anyone could be a star. Talent was the
last requirement needed to be an artist. Overnight success stories had become common, Gimmicks, lip
synching, and false images overshadowed the talent during this popular period.
The sexy duo Terri & Monica have proven that those times may finally be coming to an end. Along
with their manager, and close friend Tara Geter, they have established a creditable background that put
them a cut above the rest. Singing background vocals for artists such as A1 B. Sure, Jodeci, Mary J.
Blije, and Heavy D. seem to have prepared them to take on their own projects.
They may be described as “true artists” who co-produce, write and arrange all of their material. Their
new single uh hugh from their debut album Sistas, is one of their “must-hear” singles. The single has
an outrageously fly, club beat flavor.
Last December the duo performed the much raved over song at Velvet, a local club. The live perfor
mance allowed the audience to sincerely appreciate the re-birth of true artists. Other singles performed
include Fve Been Waiting , from the Poetic Justice soundtrack, and Intentions.
Terri & Monica left the audience screaming for more. They gave off a vibe that everyone in the club
could feel. Go out and get Terri and Monica’s new album Systas. It will be a music investment you
won’t regret!
