CAN FARRAKHAN
BE CONSIDERED A
MUSLIM?

“What’s your leader’s name?”
a fellow student once asked me.
“You know that man that says
that white people are devils?”
the student continued.
My response to this
question was that my only leader
is Allah [God]. I follow no man.
People constantly assume that
just because I am a Muslim, that
1 follow Farrakhan. And I want
to let everyone know that even
though Louis Farrakhan
considers himself a Muslim, he
is not.
When I told some of my peers
that Farrakhan was not a Muslim
they asked me, “Then what is
he?”
First of all, Farrakhan is not a
Muslim because he believes that
God is a Black man named Fard
Muhammad (who is currently
alive) who had intercourse with
Mary, whom he considers to be a
white woman. The Muslim
believes that there is only one
God, Allah, who is not a man but
a spiritual interpretation.
Second, Farrakhan has stated on
several occasions that he believes
“White men are devils.” This
statement leads people to think
The real meaning

The fourth Thursday in
November is not just an ordinary
Thursday-Nov.24 is Thanksgiving
Day. In the United States,
Thanksgiving is an annual day of
thanks for the blessings of the
past year. It is an historical,
national and religious holiday
that began before Christ.
The Bible tells of the Hebrew
feast of the tabernacles or tents.
For seven days in the fall, the
Hebrews lived in tents or huts
made from boughs. These were
like harvest in Palestine. The
shelters were decorated with
fruits, palm leaves and other
branches. The people feasted
and thanked God for the Harvest.
But the Holiday was more
than a harvest festival. It was
also in memory of the Hebrews’
40-year search for the promised
land.
In the United States,
that Muslims are racists, and often
people have passed me and in
their way saluted me by holding
up one fist and saying “Black
Power," or something to that
effect.
What bothers me is that people
think that Muslims are the only
people, the only black people who
want equality for their race.
Everyone, whether they be
Muslim, Christian, Buddhists or
whatever, should want to have
high standards or love for their
race.
Furthermore, we must
remember that all Muslims are
not only African-American.
There are people in Europe, Asia,
Australia and even the former
Soviet Union that practice the
Islamic faith.
For Farrakhan to make such
anti-semitic statements only
proves the fallacies within his
hypocritical campaign. For me
to accept and follow such
hypocrisy would make me the
equivalent of a follower of the
cult leader David Koresh, the
Televangelist Jim Baker and even
Jim Jones, the leader of
Jonestown in South America.
Therefore, if anyone wants to
know who my leader is, I am
obliged to say, “Allah.”
of Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving was not celebrated
annually until Nov. 26, 1789,
when President George
Washington issued a
proclamation of a nation wide
day of Thanksgiving. It was made
clear by the proclamation that
the day of Thanksgiving should
be one of prayer and giving thanks
to God. It was to be celebrated
by all religious denominations, a
circumstance that helped to
promote a spirit of common
heritage.
Today, Thanksgiving has
become a time of family
gatherings as well as helping
those less fortunate.
Of course, we always think
of a big family dinner when we
think of Thanksgiving. We feast
on many of the same things our
ancestors did: cranberries, com,
pumpkin pie, and turkey.
Thanksgiving afternoon, all
over the United States, football
games are played and parades
are watched.

The 104th Congress is proposing to cut financial aid (i.e.
loans, grants and work-study) by over $ 15 billion within
the next seven years. The proposal of S.B. s 1198, otherwise
known as the Student Loan Privatization Act of 1995, if
passed, it will terminate the Federal Direct Student Loan
Program (adversely affecting funding for subsidized and
unsubsidized STAFFORD LOANS, PERKINS LOANS
AND PLUS LOANS). S.B. s 1198 will also severely limit
the availability of PELL GRANTS and it will eliminate
the WORK-STUDY Program. If you do not support S.B.
si 198 and you are prepared to fight against its passage by
voting and civil protest, please sign this petition!
