SPOTLIGHT ON Makeda Level
Makeda Level
By Craig Allen Brown
SPORTS EDITOR
Makeda Level takes an extreme amount
of pride in her role as a cheerleader for Clark
Atlanta University. She sees her responsibility
as not just to cheer and dance, but to infuse
a high level of spirit into the student body,
administration, and alumni, especially during
those times when outcomes look bleak for
’ CAU’s athletic teams.
The junior Mass Media Arts
major from Fayetteville, Georgia
has been cheering since she was
eight years old. She speaks
with great adoration when she
discusses why she opted to attend
Clark Atlanta University.
“My dad is a Clark
College grad,” she said. “I
wanted to continue the tradition
of attending this great institution.
Also, I’ve never attended a
school that was predominantly
African-American, so the idea
of attending an HBCU was
intriguing. Coming here was one
of the best decisions I’ve ever
made.”
Level credits teamwork,
dedication and strong camaraderie
as reasons that allow her squad
to be a focal point during
games, rallies, and other events.
Hard work is another crucial
component, as the Panther
cheerleaders execute demanding
practices several days a week,
which include strength and cardio
training. And while she loves
to cheerlead, she does not allow herself to lose
focus on her academic pursuits.
Level says that she doesn’t have an
absolute favorite moment during her time at
CAU, because every day has allowed her to
make memories that she will cherish for a
lifetime. After completing her degree, Level
intends to become a news anchor, or serve as a
co-host for eNews.
