Learn How to Start Your Own
Business At Georgia
Atlanta, GA-The Georgia State University Small Business Development
Center will begin their Winter Quarter session of "HOW TO START YOUR
OWN BUSINESS" on Tuesday, January 26. This seven week series will be held
at Georgia State University from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Topics will include
business plans, legal issues, tax forms, marketing, recordkeeping, financial
statements and financing. The registration fee for "HOW TO START YOUR
OWN BUSINESS" is $99. Registration must be made by January 22. For

Gall for Exhibit Staff Volunteers
Atlanta, GA-Volunteers are needed to "boldly go where no one has gone
before" at SciTrek in the national traveling exhibit, STAR TREK: Federation
Science. Volunteers are need to help staff the interactive exhibition at the
Science and Technology Museum of Atlanta January 30,1993 through May 2,
1993.
Open house and Part I of volunteer training will be Saturday, January 23,1993
9:00am - 3:30pm. Part II will be Tuesday, January 26,1993 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Call for additional training dates.
STAR TREK volunteers will help visitors navigate through an asteroid field,
program a voice-activated computer, turn into a Klingon, visually beam onto an
alien planet, and command a starship.
The exhibit includes a close-up look at props and costumes actually used in
Paramount Pictures' hit TV series, STAR TREK: the Next Generation and
STAR TREK motion pictures.
Volunteers will help explain the science fact behind the science fiction through
the exhibit’s 40 modular displays. Science stations throughout the U.S.S.
Enterprise are represented including the "Bridge," "Engineering," "Sick Bay,"
and a simulation of the "Transporter Room."

Goodwill To Sponsor Southeast' s
Largest Second Hand Book Sale
Atlanta, GA-Over 200,000 titles will be available at Goodwill Industries'
thirteenth annual book sale at Northlake Mall, February 1-7. The sale will be
open from 10am to 9:30pm, Monday through Saturday, and 12:30pm to 5:30pm
on Sunday.
The book sale is popular for an excellent selection at reasonable prices. Most
books are priced from fifty cents to one dollar. Forty categories of books will
be available including mysteries, science fiction, popular novels, history,
biography, comics cookbooks, paperbacks, collectibles and books for children.
Named as one of "Top 20 Events" for February 1993 by the Southeast Tourism
Society, the book sale benefits Goodwill's job training prpgrams for people with
disabilities.

Library Receives New Name
Atlanta, GA-In its December 16, 1992, meeting, the Atlanta-Fulton Public
Library Board of Trustees voted to allow libraries to have both a location and
an honorary/memorial designation in their branch names. With that action, the
Board voted to honor longtime librarian Annie L. McPheeters by incorporating
her name into the name of the library currently known as the West Hunter
Branch. Mrs. McPheeters served as the first manager of the branch when it
opened in 1949.
New Vice-President
Jennifer Joseph becomes the college's first
woman to head new policy and planning dept
ATLANTA, GA-Morehouse College President
Leroy Keith announced the appointment of Mrs.
Jennifer Joseph to the newly created position of Vice
President for Policy and Planning, effective
immediately. Mrs. Joseph becomes the first female
vice president at the 126 year-old institution.
Mrs. Joseph has held the position of executive
assistant to the president since January 1991. In her
new role, Mrs. Joseph will be the administrative
officer responsible for integrating college policies
and programs, identifying future campus needs and
issues, advising the President concerning
organizational problems and policies, and making
appropriate policy and action recommendations.
President Keith commented,’’Mrs. Joseph has
brought the College an extensive background in
higher education administration, and has proven
herself to be a highly valued, strongly committed and
capable member of the senior administrative team.
This appointment recognizes the level of
responsibility which Mrs. Joseph already carries,
and will enable her to play an even greater role in the
coordination of College policies and future planning
efforts.”
Prior to joining Morehouse in 1991, Mrs. Joseph
held the position of associate director of the
Epidemiology Program Office of the Centers for
Disease Control. Previously employed at Dartmouth
College foreight years, Mrs. Joseph held the positions
of assistant affirmative action officer, assistant dean
of freshman, and senior associate director of
admissions and financial aid. She has also held
administrative positions at Oxford University, the

Mrs. Joseph earned a bachelor of arts degree from the British
University of Ibadan (Nigeria) and the World Health Open University and a master of education from Harvard University.
Morehouse to contribute $100,000
to AUC's Morris Brown College
