Campus
Coors Brewing Company recently donated $5,000 in
scholarships to Morehouse College. The money will be used
for students who need short-term financial assistance for
hooks, supplies, housing, travel and other emergency
expenses.
Morehouse College's Class of 2000 is implementing a Fall
Freshman Week into the school calendar. Dormitory
competition will include football, basketball, spades,
dominoes and a quiz bowl. Fall Freshman Week will run
November 10 through 17.
HBC Communications Inc., sponsors of the African Heritage
Classic, announced that its cultural mission to South Africa,
scheduled to take place Nov. 12-18 in Johannesburg, has been
postponed until March 1997 due to lack of time to effectively
promote the event. Members of Morehouse College's football
team, marching band, glee club, faculty, and staff will most
likely NOT be able to attend the Classic when it takes place
next year.
Dr. Abraham Davis Elected Chair of
Morehouse’s First Faculty Council

Dr. Abraham Davis, who
served as the Acting Chair of
the Political Science
Department last year, has
recently been elected to chair
the newly formed Faculty
Council.
The Council, which is
made up of nine members of
the faculty, was established
last school year with the help
of Dr. Robert Dixon.

The Faculty Council is
made up of members from
each of the different areas of
academic study. There are
three from the humanities,
three from the social sciences,
and three from the natural
sciences. Dr. William Pickens,
from the Humanities,
Professor Larry Crawford,
from the Social Sciences, and
Dr. Dixon, from the Natural
Sciences are some of the
members. The council
members were chosen by the
faculty to represent the needs
of the faculty.
As Chair of the Council,
some of Dr. Davis's
responsibilities include:
meeting with the President
once a month to discuss
actions or proposals made by
the Council and in cooperation
with the President and Vice-
Provost to help make up the
agenda for the faculty
meetings. The Council meets
on the first and third Tuesday
of each month at 4:00 p.m. to
discuss faculty concerns. Dr.
Davis says that he is "proud to
represent one of the most
outstanding faculties of a
small liberal arts college."
Atlanta Glory makes Morehouse their Home
Scholarships & Internships
The U. .S. Department of Energy is sponsoring an Industrial
Hygiene Graduate Fellowship Program for those interested
in researching the environmental factors or stressors in the
workplace that cause sickness, discomfort and inefficiency.
Lasting for 21 months, the program pays an annual stipend
of $15,600 plus full tuition and fees. For more info, please

HBCU faculty and students are being sought by the Nuclear
Regulatory Committee for scientific research opportunities.
The NRC HBCU Faculty and Student Research
Participation Program is looking for individuals to conduct
research in 30 areas of study including engineering,
computer science and mathematics. Full-time
undergraduate participants receive a $300 weekly stipend,
graduates $400 weekly and faculty members receive a
stipend equal to their monthly salaries or $3,400, whichever

The Atlanta History Center wants to take you back in time
with its Candlelight Tours holiday celebration December 4
and 5. Handcrafted holiday items will be sold at the

The Atlanta Glory, one of
eight teams in the new
professional women's
basketball league, has
designated Morehouse's
Olympic Arena as its official
home court
One of eight teams in the
American Baketball League,
the Glory will be joined by the
Colorado Xplosion, the
Columbus (Ohio) Quest, the
New England Blizzard, the
Portland (Ore.) Power, the
Richmond (Va.) Rage, the San
Jose (Calif.) Lasers and the
Seattle Reign.
The franchise is run by
general manager Debbie
Miller-Palmore, a player on
the 1980 Olympic team. The
squad is coached by 1976
Olympic silver medalist
Patricia Roberts and will star
1996 gold medalists Olympic
gold medalists Carla McGhee
and Teresa Edwards.
The Glory's 40-game
season began on October 24
and will run through two tiers
of playoffs. The Glory will
play 15 home games in the
Morehouse Olympic Arena
and 5 in the Georgia State
University Arena. ABL Games
can be seen nationwide on
SportsChannel affiliates such
as SportSouth.
Jeff Johnson, director of
Atlanta Glory public relations,
pointed out that paid job
opportunities for students
with the Glory would be
limited. "At the start, there
won't be any paid
positions for game day.
Because we are a start-up
team in a start-up league,
all game day staff
positions are voluntary,"
said Johnson.
But the Atlanta Glory
does bring the opportunity
to gain work experience to
theAUC. "There are some
AUC interns in our office,"
says Johnson. "We do
want to involve Atlanta
University Center
students as much as
possible."

Ticketmaster. General
admission is $10. Students
can purchase tickets for the
Nov. 14th home game at the
reduced price of $5.
