CONTEST
The Christophers are offering their twelfth annual
Video Contest for College Students. The top three
winners will be awarded $3000, $2000, and $1000,
respectively. The theme is one person can make a
difference, and an official entry form can be obtained by

SCHOLARSHIPS
Kaplan Educational Centers will provide more than
$45,00 in MCAT preparation scholarships over the next
three years to minority pre-med students through the
Student National Medical Association. For information

The Poynter Institute is holding a summer
fellowship program in news reporting and writing
for seniors and recent college graduates. Sixteen
students will be selected for the program which
runs June 11 - July 23, 1999 . Tuition will be
waiued and liuing expenses are couered by a
$1,950 fellowship . The applications deadline is
February 15, 1999 For more information and

CSX Corporation is now accepting applications for its CSX
Scholars Program, which is open to sophomores and juniors
attending selected historically black colleges and universities.
The program partners, CSX Corporation, National Audubon
Society and The College Fund/United Negro College Fund
are offering up to $13,000 in scholarship funds annually and
summer jobs. The program is open to students with an interest
in careers related to environment and/or transportation. The
deadline for applying for this year's program is February 16,
1999. Information and applications may be obtained at the

Anderson's artwork to be
showcased at Stanford University
Professor Anderson (center) at James Porter Colloquium at
Howard University
William Anderson,
professor of fine art at
Morehouse College, has
been invited to Stanford
University for a lecture, slide
presentation, and art
exhibition in the Stanford
University Department of
African-American Culture
on February 11, 1999. Also,
on February 12, he has been
invited to give a slide
presentation and lecture to
the Stanford's Department of
African and Afro-African
Studies. He will liecture
primarily on the South
Carolina and Georgia Sea
Islands. The Exhibition will
consist of approximately 30
silver gelatin prints, and the
lecture will encompass 72 of
his works in five media, of
which 61 are in the
permanent collections of
major museums and
universities. Among the the
collections are the
Wadsworth Antheneum
Amistad Gallery, Hartford,
CT.; Bodelian Library,
Oxford University, Oxford,
England; and the J. Paul
Getty Photography
Museum, Los Angeles, which
is the most prestigious
museum of photography in
the United States.
In April 1998, Anderson
was again an invited
participant in the James
Porter Colloquium at
Howard University where he
gave a slide presentation and
lecture on his work. A
publication will be available
soon which will include ten
of his sculptures and
photographs, and will
highlight his lecture. This is
being published jointly by
Howard University and the
Smithsonian Institute.
Several of Anderson's
works are in the permanent
collection of actor/comedian
Bill Cosby. Many have been
displayed on the CBS show,
Cosby , as recently as
October 5, October 26, and
November 14, 1998.

workshop/performance
in Brawley hall. The
cellist, in Atlanta for a
performance at Atlanta
Symphony Hall,
performed a requested
piece and even allowed
a few lucky students to
play his cello.
