Spring break is a time
for students to release their
worries, shed their cares and
change the pace from the
(frenzied repetitiveness/ ev
eryday monotony )of classes,
coupled vnth endless extra
curricular involvements. A
time to get away from every
thing familiar and ordinary
in one's life.
This year the
AUC missed that
concept as spring

reminiscent of an

entirely too many Morehouse

night while walking down
Ocean Dr.
It seemed that every girl
that I introduced myself to,
greeted me with: "Oh, you go
to Morehouse, I just met two
other guys from Morehouse."
Anyway, students from all four
AUC universities could be
found perusing Collins and
Washington avenues looking for
fun beyond the ordinary run-of-

Fifteen soldiers were injured

Brothas resent girls that

they don't toss grenades into

As you may or may not
know, the American economy is
currently experiencing sluggish
growth following an end to the
irrational exuberance of the late
1990's and a terrorist attack on
US soil in 2001.
Nonetheless the world's
largest economy did
not reach that
status arbi
trarily and its
resilience, led
by us, the
American con
sumers, will be
proven in the
long-run. Re-
‘ cently, as the road
to war against Iraq has cul
minated in an almost unilateral
US led attack, the stock markets
have chosen to react positively.
Investors feel that en efficient
and relatively brief war will
clear up any uncertainties and
steer the US economy back onto
the path for healthy growth.
As young investors we,
along with institutional inves
tors, can look at the depressed
stock markets worldwide as
bargain buying opportunities.
For novice investors I offer sev
eral guidelines for learning how
to invest and making that first
investment.
(1) Take a small amount of
money, whether it is $50, $100,
$200 or $500 and set it aside for
your future.
(2) read the 'business' col
umn on the front page of the
free Financial Times in the caf-
e t e r i a (the pink paper)
for three weeks to
gain a broad pic
ture of the cur
rent business
environment
(even the
Money sec
tion of the
USA Today
will suf
fice).
(3) Start looking for infor
mation about a company that
you understand how what their
product is and how they make
money.
(4) Remember that intelli
gent investing takes tie and ef
fort. If you try to make a quick
gain you will only disappoint
and discourage yourself. The
goal of investing is for your fu
ture and nobody else's. (5)
