" loniglu. in this election, you, the American people, reminded us that while our road
has been hard, w hile our journey has been long, we have picked ourselves up. we have
lought our w ay back and w e know in our hearts that lor the l tnited Slates of America,
the best is vet to come," stated the re elected President of the United States, Barack
l >bama.
I'he moment that CNN projected Obama with a successful reelect ion, there was
a resonating roar of excitement in the Atlanta l hiiversitv (’enter (Al 1C). There was a
picture, status or tweel of President ()bama on even social network. Many students
were excited as thev felt as if their hard work had paid off.
Not everyone shared this sentiment however.
“1 attended the Spelman watch parly." senior economies major Ryan Maeauley stilted.
"|I tell| quite indifferent; his record isn't the best and I don’t have too many high ex
pcctations for him."
I hc issue for many people is the President’s track record. There are not too
mam people that fee I as if he has done much in his lirsl term.
"1 le needs to improve the economy. lirst." Maeauley says. "I le also needs to
work on actual I v bringing peace to the Middle I vast. stop the American policy of in
terterenee, and mend relations w ith Cuba. I le should also consider on expanding trade
agreements with the developing world.”
Spelman, Chirk Atlanta and Morehouse held watch parties in order to support
both candidates. They all provided food and a good environment for people to watch
and hav e a supportiv e, but scholarly discussion on why they support either candidate.
With reports emphasizing the role of the youth and Black vote, the voter aware
ness and registration efforts of organizations like the Morehouse chapter of the Na
tional \ssociation for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and Morehouse.
Spelman and Clark Atlanta Student Government Association’s (SGAs) were integral.
Once again, the AUC has played a significant role in helping to determine the President
of the l ’nited States.
