Recently we covered the
groovy show at the number
one “Show place of the
South” Atlanta’s own Sweet
Gum Head. We were cor
dially welcomed by Art El-
liston, and found that we
were in for a very enter
taining evening.
Mr. Allison, tore up the
stage with a wild rendition
of “Hello Dolly”. A few
customers laughingly en
joyed a “Champagne bath,”
as Allison offered drinks
from a bottle that was de
finitely. . .no prop. It
was loaded!!!! And audience
participation was the thing.
With the self assurance,
and aire of a professional,
Allison delighted fans with
his emotion packed per
formance.
It isn’t easy to follow an
act like this, but Deva
Sanchez did in an intense
grand soul manner. This
big mama knows how to
“sock it to 'em.” And Deva
baby, you did!
Interested in something
different? Well, everyone
loves “teddy bears,” and
the Sweet Gum Head has
one of their very own. Julie’s
the name, and male im
personation is her game.
She’s a natural, and the
audience loved her (Only six
months experience too!)
Last, but not in anyway
the least, tall slender “Mar
lowe” was terriffic as she
added even more variety
to the show with her sing
ing and baton twirling act.
_We have seen why the
Sweet Gum Head is the
number one “show place
of the South.” During in
termission, customers
crowded the dance floor as
the dynamite disc jockey
Tom Tom played the top
tunes.
We also noted that all of
the employees at the Sweet
Gum Head were so soft
spoken and courteous, len
ding that “personal touch”
to a truly enjoyable even
ing out.
Here’s news!!! For those
of you who were fortunate
enough to see the “Came-
lot Spectacular” 1973 Miss
Gay Atlanta Pageant, Art
has informed us that June
22nd, the 1974 MGA is to
be held. The theme is taken
from the movie “Funny
Girl”, and the opening num
ber is “The Most Beauti
ful Girl In The World.”
Yes, it’s being ddne again,
and this time “June Brides”
will enhance the pageant as
the most talented and love
liest female impersonators
in the world compete against
one another for the covet
ed Miss Gay Atlanta Pageant
trophies. Anyone desiring
