Female impresona- tors from all over the Globe will be on hand for the “Big One”. The impossible dream, the coveted title of Miss Gay America. On May 3, 4, and 5th, Atlanta will host the Third Annual Miss Gay America Pageant. At lanta was chosen over sev eral other cities for a variety of reasons. Fore most among these was the popularity of female im personation. in the city. The main ballroom of the Atlanta American Hotel has been reserved. The loca tion is 160 Spring Street and the hotel is right across the street from the Trailways Bus Terminal. The Miss Gay America Pageant awards thousands of dollars of cash prizes each year to the best female impersonators in the United States. 1974 will see a total of $7,000.00 dollars in prizes and awards given to the new Miss Gay America and her court. The Miss Gay America Pageant awards more cash prizes than any other contest in the nation. M. G. A. will receive more money than either Miss Universe or Miss America from a single source. Miss Gay America will be seen throughout the United States through television and newspaper coverage of the event. Network officials have assuredthe founders that it is only a matter of time until the Pageant will be telecast nationwide. All this from a small idea spawned 3 years ago by a Gay Club operator in Nash ville, Tenn., Jerry Peek, founder of the Miss Gay America Pageant, or iginally planned a small re gional contest. But the first year, entries were re ceived from all across the nation. Local television and radio coverage was inten sive, and from that be ginning, a nationwide contest has evolved. The first Miss Gay America hailed from Hot Springs, Arkansas, and is known professionally as Norma Kristie. His efforts have in large part, made the pageant what it is today. During his reign, he travelled over 10,000 miles promoting the pageant. In 1973 Carmello Santiago (Continued on page 2) Queen’s Men Host Third Annual Memphis Cotton Carnival Pageant The Queen’s Men, a non-profit organization was chartered by the State of Tenn. in 1971 with head quarters in Memphis Tenn. Membership is not res tricted to Memphis. The organization now has mem bers in Orlando, Fla., Dallas, Texas and New Orleans, La., and is steadily growing. Each year me organiza tion sponsors shows, dan ces, bazaars and the annual Miss Gay Memphis Pageant and contest. This year it was produced and directed most successfully by Don of George’s Truck Stop & Drag Bar, Memphis’ only^ theater lounge. Michele, ,the winner, was sponsored in the Miss Gay Tennessee contest and is successful second alternate. The or ganization contributes yearly to a charity of it’s choice.
