Dear Luv Lee
"Advice To The Lovelorn"
Dear Luv Lee,
I am 19 yrs. old.
I’m an outgoing person
and love dancing, going
to the movies, tennis and
just plain all around hav
ing fun. There is noth
ing wrong with my looks
accept for bei lg a little
overweight. I have a
car, live by myself and
have nice furniture, and
a steady job. So I don’t
, have to cask anyone for
anything.
Presently I am not
going with anybody, and
haven’t been for the past
six or eight months be
cause I can’t seem to
find anyone. Everybody
in bars seem so stuck-
up, and the ones I do
meet seem to want com
panionship just for one
night. Love don’t seem
to enter their minds. I
want more out of it than
that.
What do you suggest,
since there is no
computer dating service
for the gay community.
Lonely, Sincere & Des
perate
Rome, Ga.
Dear Lonely, Sincere &
Desperate,
I am printing your let
ter as I feel that it is
an important one. So
many people share the
same problem as you. I
will advise you as I have/-
others to visit the Met-'
ropolitan Community.
Church. I personally am
not a member, but a
friend of the church and
the people in the congre
gation are just what you
are looking for. Many
of these people joined just
to make decent friends
and of course the religion
end of it came naturally.
The church is informal
and they have interesting
functions with movies,
etc. Rev. John Gill is
a groovy understanding
person and his Assistant
Pastor , Jim Snow is also.
Check the Barb for their
schedule of events and
drop by. No one will
beat you over the head
with religion. A smile,
and a “hello, this is my
first visit here,’’ will
open a new world of
friends and perhaps a
“special someone’’ for
you. Good luck and keep
me posted.

Rev. Jint Snow Holds News Conference
He reported that several 1
telephone calls, letters,
and a telegram to the
Atlanta Mayor’s office
have been ignored. He
said that he was disap
pointed at the evident re
fusal of the Mayor to dis
cuss this matter with
representatives of the
Metropolitan Community
Church, a world-wide
fellowship serving the
homophile community.
Rev. Snow said that ,
he had always had great
respect for Mayor Jack-
son, and his sensitivity
to the needs of the min
ority groups in Atlanta,
and that he was not only
disappointed, but shock
ed that his requests for
a conference with the
Mayor on this serious
matter have been totally
ignored. “We represent
over 100,000 homosex
uals, conservatively spe
aking, in greater Atlanta,
and we have a right, by
power of vote, to make
evident our protests of
the inhuman actions of the
Atlanta Police Depart-!
ment regarding our com
munity,’’ Rev. SnoW
stated.
When asked what |
his next step would be if
his requests for a confer-! I
ence with Mayor Jackson 1
continued to be ignored,
he replied, “We are
a peaceful and law-
abiding church, but we
will be forced to bring
the plight of our homosex
ual brothers and sisters
to the Mayor’s attention
by sitting outside his
office for the entire work
ing day.’’ He said if
this fails to gain the
ear of the Mayor, then
they would remain outside
his office until they were
forcibly removed.
Rev. Snow further sta
ted that he hoped these
actions would allow them
to discuss with some
probable solutions, to this
cruel harrassment and
entrapment by the APD,
and quoted their National
leader, the Rev. Troy
Perry, with, “We aren’t
afraid anymore!’’
Shortly following the
news conference, the
Mayor’s office responded
with a telephone call to
both CRC member Bill
Smith, and Rev. Snow.
Gerri Thompson, Special
Assistant to the Mayor
explained that she felt
her meeting with Mr.
Smith on Thursday, prior
to the news conference
had begun to alleviate the
problems of the gay com
munity, and specifically
the lack of communication
between the Mayor’s of
fice and the gay commun
ity leaders. Rev. Snow’s
request for an appoint
ment was granted, and
Mrs. Thompson is cur
rently making the arran
gements for the meeting
upon the return of the
Mayor to Atlanta.
In a meeting with the
news media, June 21,
1974, the Rev. Jim Snow,
i assistant pastor Metro
politan Community ch
urch, announced that re
peated attempts to confer
with Mayor Jackson on
the maliscious harrass
ment and entrapment po
licies of the Atlanta Po
lice Department toward
homosexuals have failed.
