Women’s Organizations and Religious
Bodies Great Factors in Move
ment to De-Legalize War,
Levinson says in Chicago
Address
Chicago, (J. T. A.).—The influence
. f women’s organizations and relig
ious bodies aided greatly in the move
ment to de-legalize war, declared
Salmon 0. Livinson, Chicago attor
ney, speaking at a dinner given him
last night at Sinai Congregation to
honor him for his part in the move
ment to outlaw war. Senator Wil
liam E. Borah, next to former Sec
retary Kellogg, was the strongest in
dividual force in the movement, Mr.
Levinson declared.
The banquet was tendered Mr.
U>vinson by the Chicago Sinai Con
gregation, of which he is a member,
and the congregation sisterhood.
Nearly one thousand persons, mem
bers of the congregation and guests,
attended. Dr. Louis L. Mann presided.
Among the speakers who praised
Levinson for his role in fostering the
plans for the Kellogg peace treaty
were Judge Florence Allen of the
Ohio Supreme Court, Dr. Charles
Clayton Morrisson, editor of the
“Christian Century”, and Harrison
Browm, English publicist and pacifist
leader.
By preventing his treaty to outlaw
war from becoming an issue in the
Hoover-Smith campaign, Secretary of
State Kellogg sagaciously saved the
treaty ratification from probable de
feat in the Senate, Mr. Levinson de
clared. Had the treaty question gone
to a popular referendum in the presi
dential election, its chances in the
Senate would have been slim, he said.
“Mr. Kellogg showed himself to be
a great statesman in three respects.
He refused to compromise on any
modifications, his diplomacy was in
the open, and he kept the treaty out
of the campaign, thereby assuring
enough Democratic votes in the Sen
ate to put it over without a change”,
Mr. Levinson declared.
JEWISH WOMAN’S CLUB
Hello everybody, this is station
JAZZ broadcasting from the Jew
ish Woman's Club. Gee, we’re just
full of pep and whoopee. Tonight we
have a very important and special
announcement to make all about the
big show—what show?—why the
“Junior Follies” of course. On Tues
day night, April 16th at 8:30 o’clock
at the Jewish Woman’s Club, corner
Washington and Clark streets, the
Junior Division of the Jewish Wo
man’s Club will present the “Junior
Follies,” a musical show, under the
direction of Mr. Earl Blackwell.
You’ve heard about this fellow, Earl
Blackwell, haven’t you? Well believe
me, folks, Earl is some director. He
surely makes you strut, and Miss El
sie Rudderman assisting with the mu
sic for the show surely shakes a
wicked piano key.
The “Junior Follies” is going to be
the snappiest, liveliest, peppiest, en
tertaining, and most delightful show
of the year. Just full of pep and jazz,
and all the vim and vigor that makes
you want to step. And talk about beau
tiful girls, old man Ziegfeld hasn’t
seen anything yet. Plenty of beautiful
girls with plenty of “It,” handsome
boys, introducing all the new songs
and dance hits right from Broadway,
various novelty features, plenty of
pretty costumes and scenery, and all
those things that make a real Follies.
Boy, it’s going to be one big hit of
a show—and how.
Oh yes, Miss Polly Gershon and
Miss Bess Nissenbaum are sponsors
for the Junior Division of the Jewish
Woman’s Club, and if they say the
“Junior Follies” is going to be a Wow
of a show., why man you can already
see SUCCESS written in electric
lights.
Don’t forget the date, Tuesday
night, April 16th at 8:30 o’clock.
Come on everybody and help us make
whoopee. Good night.
