ml SEA CONCESSION AGAIN
SUBJECT OF QUESTION IN
house of lords
London (J. T. A.)-The question of
granting the Dead Sea concession was
[ ga;n raised in the House of Lords
yesterday. Viscount Templetown
Lted whether the government had re-
L-eived a recent communication from
L Moslem Supreme Council protest
ing against the choice of Engineer
Moses Movomejsky as the Dead Sea
L..ncessionaire.
The Earl of Plymouth on behalf of
lire government stated that in Novem
ber. iy27, the Colonial Office had re-
L ;ved an Arab memorandum asking
•hat the concession not be granted to
a company controlled and financed by
the Zionist Organization or foreign
capitalists, also that the Palestine and
[Transjordanian governments control
the undertaking, nationalizing it for
the benefit of all inhabitants.
The government replied on that oc
casion that in principle the granting
if the concession to Major Tulloch
Lnd Novomejski was already decided
[upon. It also replied that the extrae-
[tion of the salts is of a highly tech-
fciical and commercial character in
volving a large expenditure and the
a of loss. Therefore, the govern
ment itself cannot undertake this.
Subsequently the Arabs addressed
elegrams to the Lord Chancellor, urg-
ng the local government to develop
he Dead Sea resources. These tele-
:rams have been acknowledged but
,ot officially replied to. If a reply had
)een sent, it would have been along
he lines of the earlier letter, the Earl
f Plymouth declared.
