Miss Fannye Elkins, of Alma, Ga.,
entertained with a miscellaneous
shower and bridge party in honor of
Miss Anne Lee Lazarus, of Waycross,
Ci'a., a bride-elect.
Six tables were arranged for bridge
and rummy. Mrs. Mac Aarons, of
Baxley, Ga., won high score, and Miss
Sophie Schear won low score. Mrs.
Harry Schear, of Waycross, Ga., won
the rummy prize.
The bride-elect was recipient of
many beautiful gifts. A delicious salad
course was served.
Many out-of-town guest were
among the players.
Miss Henri Lubetkin, Mrs. M.
Jacobson and Mrs. A. H. Lubetkin
returned after spending several days
in Savannah, Ga.
Mrs. T. E. Sasser and Mrs. W. E.
Groover were hostesses at a delightful
bridge party and miscellaneous show
er at the home of Mrs. Sasser on
Carswell Avenue in compliment to
Miss Henri Lubetkin, an attractive
bride-elect.
Several tables were arranged for
bridge and after the interesting game,
delicious refreshments were served.
Mrs. M. Jacobson made high score
and low score prize went to Miss
Lubetkin.
The honoree was the recipient of
many lovely gifts.
“April Shower” Given By Miss Mazo
Honoring Bride-Elect
Miss Henri Lubetkin whose mar
riage to Mr. Max Ellin, of Homer-
ville, Ga., will be an event of interest
at an early date, was honor guest at
a novelty shower and bridge party
Sunday afternoon by Miss Libbye
Mazo at her home on Brunei Street.
Lovely spring flowers were used for
decorations and seven tables were ar
ranged for bridge and rummy.
1 he first prize for bridge was won
by Mrs. M. Gilmore. She was pre
sented with a novelty China salt and
pepper shakers. Low score prize, a
bridge set went to Mrs. Max Marcus,
of Baxley, Ga. The prize for rummy,
an attractive wall-pocket was awarded
to Mrs. Alex Gilmore, of Blackshear.
An elaborate salad course was
served at the close of the game.
Miss Lubetkin was the recipient of
a lovely array of gifts, which was
presented to her in the form of “April
Showers” by Miss Thelma Weiser
dressed as a bathing girl and holding
an umbrella filled with the packages.
Miss Ann Lee Lazarous played sev
eral piano numbers while Miss Weiser
danced and presented each gift to the
bride-elect.
After the opening of the gifts a
reception followed to which the gen
tlemen friends were invited.
Among the out-of-town guests were
Mrs. Joe Hirsh, of Hazelhurst and
her guest, Mrs. Dinken, of New York
City; Mrs. Max Marcus, Mrs. Max
Aarons, Mrs. Mose Hirshman, and
Mrs. Ben Wolfson, of Baxley; and
Miss Fannye Elkins, of Alma, and
M!ss Esther Elkins, of Unadilla, and
Mrs. A. Gilmore, of Blackshear.
Mr. and Mrs. Israel Lazarus enter
tained at a lovely reception, on Sun
day afternoon, March 17, in honor of
their son, Selwyn’s Bar Mitzvah.
The home was beautifully decorated
carrying out a color scheme of pink
and white. The dining table held a
pretty silver centerpiece with white
azaleas and pink rose buds, and on
each side were silver candle sticks
holding pink tapers. The buffet held
a silver basket with pink azaleas and
the handle was tied with pink tulle.
Miss Lena Michelson, of Perry, Fla.
and Helen Lipsilz, of Jasper, Fla.,
served punch.
Master Selwyn made a very inter
esting talk which was followed by a
talk by Rev. R. M. Miller, of Valdos
ta. About 100 guests were present,
many being from out of town.
Miss Frieda Lazarus has returned
from a visit to Raleigh, N. C.
Mr. Lou Greenskum, of Wendell,
N. C., and Mr. Herman Barker, of
Wilson, N. C., were the guests several
days of Mr. and Mrs. P. Lazarus.
Mr. I. T. Cohen, of Atlanta, spent
a few days with Mr. Lou Jackson, of
Hahira, Ga.
Mr. Mackey Klein, of Atlanta, was
a business visitor to Valdosta.
Miss Libbie Gilmore and Mr.
Julius Gilmore has returned after at
tending the Tau Epsilon Phi frater

Florida in Gainesville, Fla.
Miss Esther Elkins, of Unadilla,
Ga., is the guest of Miss Ann Lee

Fort Valley Y r outh Is Awarded Prize
Of $500 Scholarship
Fort Valley, Ga.,—Frederic Solomon
has been awarded a prize of $500 in
the Carl Laemmle Victor Hugo Scho
larship contest.
The subject of the essay contest in
which pupils throughout the United
States and Canada competed for the
awards was What Ideals For Life
do You Find in Victor Hugo’s Les
Miserables? The papers were sub- i
mitted last May and the aw'ards are
just being made. The youth sub
mitted his essay when a senior m
the Fort Valley High school. He is
now a student at the University 0
Georgia, where he is a member o
the Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity and a
member of the Phi Kappa Literary

freshman impromptu debate. He
also a member of the Beftads.
