UduMt »t*»iV,o. ciaowmati. o. tiNtAiMATi, 0 0 ( I A luncheon held recently at the Hotel Montclair in New York City marked the final gathering of a group of specialists in Jewish education who had been attending a seminar spon sored by the Union of American He brew Congregations. The luncheon wa< given by the members of the group as an expression of apprecia- n for the men who were the lead ers of the discussions during the past few weeks. The seminar was organized for the first time this summer for the pur- "f gathering together those who W(, re specializing in the field of Jew- v h education, so that they could pre sent and discuss problems of religious school education. The discussions were held in the form of a seminar at which time the theory of Jewish education and its application to re ligious schools was defined and en larged upon. The leaders of the discussions were Dr. Emanuel Gamoran, Educational Director of the Department of Syna gogue and School Extension, Rabbi J. B. Poliak, Director of School Ex tension in New York City, and Dr. Julius B. Mailer, Director of Educa tional Research for the Department of Synagogue and School Extension, and a member of the Character Meas urement Inquiry which was conducted at Columbia University. There were twelve sessions of the seminar of two hours each held dur ing the month of August at the New York offices of the Union, 11 West 42nd St. Dr. Gamoran led the class in a study of the aims and purposes of Jewish education, the problem of method, and the subject of text-books. Rabbi Poliak’s field was classroom management, and the various subjects relating to it, such as discipline, equipment, and means of obtaining the interest of the child.
