A.)—President Herbert Hoover issued the following message to American Jewry through the Jewish Telegraphic Agency on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah: “Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is an occasion upon which all citizens of our country may well re call with adrpiration and gratitude the whole-hearted loyalty and high- minded ideals of the Jewish element of our population. I felicitate them not only upon these qualities, so val uable to our civic life, but also upon their steadfast policy of furthering the cause of mutual respect and re gard between the races, which is mak ing continuous headway. A.)—Rabbi Koppel Reich, Orthodox Chief Rabbi of Hun gary and member of the Hungarian Senate, died at the age of 92. It was stated that the Iron Wolf which supported the Waldemaras government planned a march on Kov- no, following the resignation of the Waldemaras cabinet for the purpose of declaring Lithuania a Fascist state in imitation of the Fascist march or Rome. The Iron Wolf was said to have been responsible for the recent anti- Jewish excesses in Slobodka and the frequent attacks on the Jewish popu lation in the provincial towns.
