The increasing difficulty in raising the rising tide of relief, and •h. chest movement compelled these mic.i ties to join forces and federate. In many cities, particularly the 'arger centers, the Federation oper ates as a Jewish Community Chest. - a central fund—raising and dis- nhiting organization. The constit uent agencies retain their separate astcree and autonomy. This is not true of the smaller communities. In the latter, the Federation is a func- 'amal organization. That is, in addi- t:on to central financing, it does social work direct. The Atlanta Federation is of the latter type. Its constituent agencies are in reality departments, or divis- '• -n- "f Federation service. Tie- Montefiore Relief of the Fed- ration is the Family Welfare Unit. dMr:butes relief funds. During the past two months the Federation has received the following contributions to its Memorial Fund: In memory of Jacob Fox—contribu tions from Julian V. Boehm, N. F. and J. B. Wolfe. Please remember the Federation Flower Memorial Fund. Here’s a good way of paying tribute to the memory of your dear ones. Yahr Zeit is another occasion for remembering the Federation Memorial Fund. ALLIANCE ACTIVITIES Installation of Public Showers Through the generosity of the At lanta Section, of the Council of Jew ish Women, under the leadership of Mrs. Alfred Myers, the Alliance has received the necessary funds with which to complete the installation of a large hot water storage tank and heater. This will make possible the use of showers by all those using the Alliance Basketball Court. In ad dition the showers will be open to the public at certain designated hours. Juniors and Alliance Club members will be charged five cents for towel service. Adults and outsiders will be charged ten cents. B’nai B’rith Shows Interest in Alliance Boys’ Activities The Gate City Lodge of the B’nai Brith has shown marked interest in the welfare of boys as regards their leisuretime activities. Members of the B’nai Brith were largely respons ible for the building of the Alliance Basketball Court. In this connection we may mention the special services of A1 Loeb and Milton Klein. This basketball court has seen sev eral years' of strenuous athletic ac tivity. Now the floor is almost gone. A new floor is imperative. Once again the B’nai Brith Lodge has shown its interest in boys’ work at the Alliance, by pledging a substan tial contribution toward the construc tion of a new floor. Chest funds do not provide for such an item. Special contributions can make that possible. A new floor for the Alliance Basket ball Court is the premium on an in surance policy against juvenile delin quency, against idleness during spare hours, and for the building of sound physical manhood and good character.
