Mrs. Meyers Gives Talk to
Jewish Women
At the regular council meeting held
recently, Mrs. Alfred Myers, presi
dent of the Atlanta section of the
National Council of Jewish Women,
gave an interesting account of the
twelfth triennial convention of the
council in Los Angeles, to which she
was the delegate from this district.
Mrs. Myers gave a brief but thor
ough resume of the business conduct
ed and of the elaborate entertainment
afforded the delegates in all of which
the outstanding theme was the cry for
peace. Presidents of each chapter were
urged to pool interests with other or
ganizations to reach that goal for
which the nations are now striving.
Mr. Armand Wyle, superintendent
of the Hebrew Orphans’ Home, ex
plained his aim, in carrying out the
work. He is striving to break down
the traditional Orphans’ Home on the
basis that proper child placement and
careful subsid zing are more beneficial
to the child than institutional life,
no matter how efficient the institu
tion. Mr. Wyle urged the members
to aid him vjn locating the adequate
homes for the children in which the
housew’fe will be doing her service
to mankind.
Mr. Edwin Kahn, superintendent of
the Jewish Educational Alliance, and
host of the afternoon, addressed the
council, complimenting the varied ac
tivities of the council chapters, and
the plea to the Atlanta section to
broaden their outlook as well as their
activity. He urged a change in at
titude of mind toward the traditional
community service, pointing out that
today each individual can contribute
his share through personal service,
outs’de of contributing funds, and by
working together in community proj
ects.
Junior Hadassah Activities
One of the most interesting meet
ings of Junior Hadassah was held re
cently, Miss Rae Rosenberg, Presi
dent, presiding. Miss Polly Gershon,
delegate from the Atlanta Chapter to
the Regional Conference, wh ch was
held in Chattanooga, presented a very
interesting report of the Conference.
Two members of Atlanta presented
papers which were read at the Confer
ence and received high praise; Miss
Rae Rosenberg prepared a paper,
“The Significance of Jewish National
Fund” and Miss Helen Seflf one on
“Membership in Junior Hadassah.”
The members of the Atlanta Chap
ter who attended the Conference were
Misses Rae Rosenberg, Helen Seflf,
Rose Schreiber, Lee Rittenbaum,

Frances Heilman, Sara Gershon, Mol-
lye Bressler, Mamye Jacobs, and Lot
tie Geflfen. Miss Mary E. Frank of
Chattanooga, was re-elected President;
Miss Helen SefT of Atlanta was re
elected First Vice-President; Miss
Mary Hurvich of Birmingham was
elected Second Vice-President; Miss
Dinah Rausin of Chattanooga, Corre
sponding Secretary; Miss Lillian Big-
man of New Orleans, Recording Sec
retary; and Miss Celia Fortas of
Memphis, Treasurer. Miss Rae Rosen
berg, President of the Atlanta Chap
ter, was re-elected J. N. F. Chairman
of the Southern Region.
The Fireside Groups of the Atlanta
Chapter have met with unusual suc
cess this year. At one meeting Mr.
Dave Meyer discussed the “Life of
llerzl”. At another Mrs. J. J. Hell-
man discussed the situation in Pales
tine and the Arab's point of view, as
well as the Jewish Agency. Miss Polly
Gershon will present the “Life of Hen
rietta Szold,” at the next meeting.
Misses Polly Gershon and Lee Rit-
tenbaum, Co-Chairman, and entire
Membership Committee, are making
plans for a Bohemian Tea to be given
for the paid up members. The details
will be announced later. The mem
bers are urged to pay their dues to
Miss Gershon or Miss Rittenbaum at
once in order to be invited to this
Tea.
Gert: “Did you get your husband a
surprise on his birthday?”
Sadie: “I’ll say I did. You never
saw a more surprised man in your
life.”
Gert: “What did you get him?”
Sadie: “Breakfast.”
