ALFRED ADLER, a university professor in New York, was honored on his sixtieth birthday when the In ternational Association of Individual Psychology held a meeting in Vienna which was addressed by eminent scientists who praised Adler’s contri butions to the science of psychology. RABBI WM. S. FRIEDMAN has completed forty years of service in the pulpit of the Temple Emanuel in Den ver, Colorado, where concurrently with his activities on behalf of Jewish caus es, he has been zealous in non-Jewish circles in promoting the cause of good will and mutual understanding be tween races and creed. Two years after his arrival in Denver, Dr. Friedman started the movement which culmi nated in the establishment of the Na tional Jewish Hospital for Consump tives, the first institution in America for the free treatment of sufferers from tuberculosis on a national, non sectarian scale. SOLOMON M. STROOCK, of New York, has been chosen President of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Theological Seminary, a post formerly held by the late Louis Marshall. JULIUS ROSENWALD has estab lished a fellowship for Negroes at the University of Chicago, which will be maintained by an endow'ment fund cre ated by Mr. Rosenwald and added to the estate of the late Conrad Hubert. BARON EDMONI) DE ROTHS CHILD of Paris, known for his Bene factions to Palestine, has donated a plot of ground in Palestine, worth $10,000, to the Women’s League for Palestine for the building of an agri cultural training school. This League is an organization in New York of women interested in Palestine. ADOLP S. OCHS, publisher of the New York Times, presented two large Menorahs to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. In his address on the in stallation of the Menorahs, Bishop Wm. Manning pointed out that this was the first time that a Christian cathedral was using seven-branched candelabra of Jewish tradition. LEO FRIEDLANDER of New York has, together with James Fraser, been chosen by the Arlington Memorial Bridge Commission to model four fig ures symbolizing war and peace which are to adorn the Lincoln Memorial Terminus of the Bridge. KAHN has been revealed as the anonymous annual Harmon don or which has been awarded for the past three years to the Negro “who made an outstanding contribution in fine arts.” NATHAN STRAUS, who has just celebrated his eighty-second birthday, expressed the hope that the London Naval Conference would be successful. In his views on the Palestine situation he declared his conviction that Great Britain will fulfill her promise to the .lews, and expressed the desire that he wants peace for Palestine, but not a peace imposed by pogroms. JANESCA, a Rumanian, is sueing the London Evening Standard for libel on the grounds that a news item in that paper called him a Polish Jew. Janesca declares that he is friendly to the Jews, but that he wishes it under stood that he is not a Jew. MAJOR DANIEL IIOPKIN, Labor Member of Parliament, who has been on a lecture tour in America, announc ed at a luncheon tendered him by the Zionist Organization of America that Lord Passfield is soon to resign from his post in the British Colonial Office and will be succeeded by Mernon Hartshorn of South Wales, Mr. Hart shorn is known for his friendly atti tude toward the Jews.
